In my current game I realized it would be easier to win a diplomatic than a domination victory, so I've built the UN. I have 14 total votes, more than enough to win. 10 turns have passed, with the countdown showing up in the corner "# turns to world leader vote." After the 10th turn, there was no indication that a vote occurred, and the countdown went back to 10 turns!

I am at war with 2 MPs and their CS allies - would that somehow prevent a vote from occurring?

This is either a bug or you have UN vote disabled for this game. What happens on the voting turn is that a bubble with an exclamation mark shows in the right part of the screen. Click on it and select a leader to vote for.

The UN win is the easier to cook. In my games I almost always have 10 CSs as allies. Its a pitty sometimes the science victory takes tooooooo long =/

First thing I did when I restarted playing a few days ago was play egypt with 6 cities + wonderspam. I was set for an easy cultural victory, and felt like also building the UN. I built it, the vote screen popped up, and zomg you have won the game! Finished, go back to the menu screen ....

What an amazingly annoying killjoy :x

I time my UN build to finish about 3-5 turns before I finish the game so I don't win the game. Or im playing against Siam and Greece and I have to beat on them just to keep them from winning

Easy way to screw up Siam's and Greece's strategy for win is to buy city-states early and declare war on the civilizations near them. City captured, no vote.

Works like a charm when you know they are going to attempt that victory.

Another somewhat strange feature with diplovotes and city states is if you do liberate a CS, it'll always vote for you, even though you're not allied anymore and even if it's allied to your enemy and is at war against you, sure enough the vote is secured forever. So, liberating a CS and you'll not need to put another penny into it for it's UN vote, ofc you'll need to find a way to keep it alive but that's another matter.
