Does anyone else have buyer's remorse for Civilization VI? I bought the game and was playing for around 10-15 hours or so, then the boredom set in. Mid game is again and again just pretty boring, so many inconsequential mechanics, the game is a loooong slog to get through. Policy cards seem good on paper, then you realise it's just micromanagement all the time. Agendas are totally barmy. I've had civilizations happy with me because I was strong, then the next turn they think I'm weak, then they think I'm strong again. I won't comment on the AI, but... Yeah, it sucks too.

Wish I could get a refund, but I've played more than two hours. This game actually made me try out Civilization V with Vic Populi and man, what a breath of fresh air...

It hasn't been cheap, but 1370 hours says I guess I like it enough. To each their own, though. The 2 hour limit is pretty impossible to know whether it would be worth a refund or not for a game in the scale of civ6, though.

1,500 hours or so later I think I can safely say I've got my money's worth.

I've got over 2k hours in the game. I don't feel like my money has been misspent.

I do have trouble justifying playing Civ VI. I dislike more of the civilizations than I like.

Most are just cluttered junk closets of abilities. And despite being messy, they are also very by-the-numbers. Take Scottland, for instance. It gets more GP points for being happy. Then it gets a unique district that generates amenities. Follow the bouncing ball. Reward the player for keeping his ciities happy, but let him figure out how to achieve that. Not like the gold course is helping them pull something off that's challenging.

And that's what we see again and again. No delicacy, no emergent complexity. Just simple, ham-handed, and usually overgunned design. There are exceptions, and I certainly perk up when someone complains about a civ that's too weak and belongs on the D-list, because there are a lot of neckbeards who snort through their nose and relegate any nuanced design to the F-Tier. It's an underskilled player who is only drawn to overpowered civ's. You know, as a rule.

Having said, thousands of hours of play here. Can't imagine spending that time playing another game. We haven't had competition in this space for so very long.

Goodness me no, it may not be perfect but I must have played close to 500 hours since release, not much compared to some on here but significantly more than any other game over the same period. I find it extremely satisfying and relaxing, it has been my haven throughout lockdown!

I tend to play it in spurts. Play a couple games and then none for a while. Takes turns with Elder Scrolls online, which just released a new expansion so I'm overthere now.

Given the large volume of recent threads by OP building up to this subject, I suppose it was only a matter of time before landing here.

Most people on the civ6 forum like the game. Although that doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. There are things I don’t like about civ6.
Although after 3.5 years, it’s not a secret what the game is like and what problems it has.

I hope this wasn’t a case of expectations leading to a bad experience, because most people seem to think it’s at least a fun game - and the goal of all games is to have fun!

I'm a big critic of 6 typically but I got a few decent hours out of it so I suppose it wasn't a horrible purchase. If it makes you feel better 6 was the iteration for me where I stopped auto buying everything Civ.

So I guess you live and learn. Just remember this when they start hyping 7 (and you know they will). Maybe by then they'll release the DLL (kinda doubt this) and good mods will be around for 6. (Also I suppose your venture into 6 introduced you to VP for 5, silver lining and all that.)

For VI? No, never. I would be ashamed if I said I did, with so many hours in.

For this new pack? Maybe, although @Laurana Kanan and @Victoria have inspired me to start up a game soon.

But I have a lot of negative feelings atm over @Gedemon ’s map. I will never again purchase a firaxis product or any product that involves a member of this team. They are being .... jerks.

I have buyers remorse for buyin the switch version and all its DLC. The chuggy framerate and constant crashes and hall of fame wiping itself make it so that I rarely touch that version.

Otherwise I would have had no problem buying it twice (I mostly play on PC).
