I started work on a new horror adventure, with a byzantine theme.

Graphics are mixed, some I made as 3d in blender (like the exterior of the cathedral), others are just manipulated photos.

A couple of screens:

Do you like the aesthetic?

So it is like The Secret of Monkey Island but with orthodox monks beards instead of pirate beards.

Is Cthulhu involved ? It would be nice if Cthulhu was involved :) You can't go wrong with Cthulhu :D (bacause You know - Greeks and their Octopodes fixation xD)

It's good that You have passion for game-making. I've tried to create an adventure once with AGS but it turned out bad and I didn't had the drive to go on. What I've learned though is that aesthetics are secondary to gameplay. Like in for example iconic "5 Days a Stranger" series (made also in AGS) which are superb ! ;) The setting of Your game fits a horror game genre for sure ;) Given that You're a writer I can be fairly sure the writing and the script are gonna be good ;) I love the music too ! I used to play Byzantine Empire theme from Civ 4 on a loop because it is so great :D

The singing is a hymn to the Virgin Mary. Basically says that she is more noble than the cherubim and better than everyone else :)

The octopus is from a mycenaean vase.

By the way, do you think the screen outside of the cathedral looks too empty? (the sky)
It is night, anyway. The player character will be shaded a bit -when outside- by the end, to signify lack of light.

If the title is Byzantine, why don't makes it medieval instead?

The game is generally an allegory about being very introverted, with the Byzantine Empire symbolizing the sense of superiority or alienation (and also featured through my model of the Holy Apostles local cathedral...) ;)
The current (working) game title is "Byzantine Empire" (ala Lynch's "Inland Empire" - though not many will make the connection, which isn't that crucial in the first place)

Empty can invoke fear - You can also add in a "jump scare" there like - make the wolf hidden , only reveal itself when character gets close, as a bonus You can make a "quest" there to find a flashlight in order to find something else there and a "quest" to get rid of the wolf ;)

There is a quest to get rid of the wolf - or at least to avoid being killed by him :)

Door/lock puzzles are lame, but at the moment I can't think of something different for the non-scary part of the game.

At any rate, this is a lock with greek letters, which is useful for me given I can force the player to not try random stuff, having the protagonist make some snarky remark about how it is ridiculous to randomly choose the one of a possible 24^5 options.
