C3C: Barbarossa Ver 1.2 by Sarevok and Rocoteh

Soviet troops of 5th Guards Tank Army moved into Lvov today. The town was joyous at the sight of the Red Army troops. Casualties were minimal. Soviet aircraft began attacking targets deeper into Polish territory.

In the north, as the snow was coming down hard, the Soviet commander watched one artillery regiment after another roll by. The band played inspiring music to encourage the troops as they marched out of Riga. The party commissar stood by the general.

“You know that they are waiting for us in Koenigsburg, Comrade General. The Germans are going to give our troops quite a going over, as they did at Vilna.”

The general looked back at the commissar.

“Perhaps, Alexander Petrovich. But at Vilna, I had neither artillery nor a band. And now…”

“And now, Comrade General?”

“And now, we will see how well the Germans can dance.”

The week of Christmas, 1941, contained no offensive ground operations for the Axis forces. Forces that had been driving south to counter the recent Soviet offensive were redirected back to the north, or were they? A massive Soviet army is once again marching on Konigsburg.

We await your move.

What level do you play on singleplayer? Monarch, Emperor? Would just like to know....

There was no option to set the level. (I had the same question before hand.) Now that we're playing, it says level is "Colonel" when restoring the saved games. I don't know off-hand what that corresponds to in the original game terms.

No, no, I ment what level player you are ;) . To me it seems that another of you is a bit better strategist :mischief:

Sure, I'll admit it....

I've only played this scenario once as the Germans before starting this PBEM. I played on an easier difficulty level since I was unfamiliar with it. Monarch I think. It was rather easy.

I've never played as the Germans on any of the higher difficulties.

I've started two single player games as the Russians. First one the second hardest level (after winning as the Germans) before I started this PBEM. I only got to where the AI had Tigers before we started so I hadn't played that one through. I started a single player game as the Russians on Sid difficulty after seeing some of M60A3TTS's tactics.

So my guess is that most folk here have more experience at it than I (in fact, I only got Conquests this past Christmas). And therefore, you know what you can get away with better, what the different unit strengths and weaknesses are, and are therefore better strategists.

I'm still having fun. :) And I'm still going to lose, but that's ok with me. :)

Well that's good, afterall games are just for having fun :). If it's fun, it doesn't matter do you lose or win. A little tip: draft like a maniac ;)

Typically I play at emperor level. First time playing by email. I'm not sure I've displayed significantly better tactical play. A Golden Age will cover up a multitude of sins. ;)

I really just wanted a chance to try out this scenario, and saulosi has been great about keeping the game turns coming. :goodjob: You don't get that a lot of times for a variety of reasons.

As far as drafting goes, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't an available tactic. But to their credit, the S&R team did a good job balancing out the draft rate with an appropriate amount of war weariness. It has affected my own production somewhat, and in fact I haven't even drafted much in the last few turns.

Today troops entered East Prussia for the first time in the war. Germany is calling up fresh new conscript units to defend her native soil.

The first wave of Red Army artillery fire was followed by massed attacks of armor that created substantial casualties. The defensive position was held, but not without cost.

Casualties:

Soviet
1 Tank Corps
2 Cavalry Divisions

German
15 Infantry Divisions
3 Volksturm Divisions
1 ADA
1 Cossack Volunteer Division

The first wave of the Soviet attack on Konigsburg was met with fire so hot that it melted the snow covered ground and turned it to mud. Axis forces based on the city attacked out and destroyed the invaders. Combat results below.

It appears as though the Soviets are not content to only press on Konigsburg. Army Group South has been alerted of Soviet armored forces approaching Iyano-Frankovsk. 3 Bombers were lost to Soviet fighter cover, possibly out of Zhitomir.

Konigsberg area---

Soviet losses:
Mechanized Infantry Corps - 1
Infantry Divisions - 24
Motorized Rifle Divisions - 3
Tank Corps - 12
Tank Divisions - 3
Tank Brigades - 4
Mobile AA - 1

Axis Losses:
Panzer Divisions - 5

Stavka reluctantly calls off the offensive yet again in the north due to horrendous losses. The two German Panzer Corps in the south are destroyed, but Ilyano Frankovsk is still in German hands.

The Red Army is ordered to suspend major offensive action to take stock of the situation.

Lost a few bombers attempting to bomb roads.

2 of the 3 Tank Corps in Axis territory near Iyano-Frankovsk were destroyed. Not nearly as much of a loss to the Soviets as the 2 Tank Corps/Armies that they had destroyed were to the Axis.

Only a German infantry division is attacked at Ilyanno-F. Everything else quiet as the Soviet side has to build up it’s strength again.

This is where the Swedes launch their bid to take vast tracts of territory....no? :p

No activity this week.

Stavka is puzzled by the comments of the German High Command that they are too weak to attack considering the number of units they destroyed at Koenigsberg.

Stalin is at his dacha enjoying a well-deserved rest after having supervised the defense of the motherland these many months.

Sure, to defend an attack on your own territory is much easier than to launch an offensive ;) .

Another quiet week.

Road interdiction bombers stepped up their action. 1 was shot down by Soviet air power.

Soviets have recently been targetting Axis roads, there is much work to do to get the infrastructure repaired and protected.
