I got a scientific leader :by a rough estimate ,should I use it right away increasing scientific output, or wait for a great wonder ? I myself would wait for a gw...
(I'm in the middle-age (chemistry), monarch ,1300ca,with one civ all alone in a continent building the Copernicus observatory(no navigation yet),while I am hindered in another continent at war with the remaining civs ...)

Last i knew, the 'increase science' is broken. They're only good for rushing wonders.

Can someone please tell me how I can play the conquest map of rise/fall of rome, without any of the romans or anything on it. With just starting positions and starting from 4000 BC like in a normal random map game?

I'd imagine that you could go into the editor and make it a mod, although it won't record your high score. For scenarios etc, you should check out the Creation and Customization forum. I'd wager you could find almost any unit/map/mod you can think of there. Just download and go!

Conquests comes with it's own editor. You can find this in the same folder as the c3c executable, or if you go to the start menu and the conquests subfolder, there's a link to it as well.

I am trying to get into a succession game. I own civ3 Gold and civ3 conquests.
The succession game I want to play is being played on Vinilla civ3 1.29. I thought that this was loaded on C3C. I was told "you should go into Program Files>InfrogamesInteractive>CivIII(maybe gold) then there will be a CivIII & a PTW folder, go to CivIII then saves & that's where you'll save it to." The only folder in there is the PTW folder. I don't understand did I need to buy Vin civ3 as well as gold and C3C to be able to play?

If you don't know where you saved the file, just use the windows search function (outside civ). Make a folder esp. for your succession game (for instance c:\successiongame). Run civ, go to that folder. If the game is played as vanilla civ game, you don't need c3c or ptw. Just make sure you run civ3, not ptw or c3c, since otherwise the game won't be saved as a vanilla game but as a c3c or ptw game.
Civ3 gold is the same as vanilla civ, it's just a "reprint".

There's no civ3 subfolder within civ3 (would be a bit pointless if it existed). For each of the expansionsets of civ3 (CIV3PTW and Conquests) a subfolder does exists in civ3.
The saves folder along with a couple files are not created until you start a civ3 game.
Just start a game, exit it, and all the folders/files will be there.

In your main civilization III folder there should be a file called Civilization3.exe, double click it.
If you want to play the expansion pack Play the World, then you need to enter the subdirectory civ3PTW and use the file Civilization3X.exe
If you want to play the expansion pack Conquests, then you need to go to the subdirectory Conquests and use the file Civ3Conquests.exe

As I understand it, if you click Civilization3.exe it will ask you to insert the vanilla Civ3 disk and not accept Civ3 Gold as a substitute. Starting Civ3 Gold and loading the .sav from there is your best bet, I think.

So if I'm understanding you correctly it doesn't really matter where I save the game. I should be able to browse to "look for the save" and the game will know to play that save as CivIII cin 1.29?

Think of Civ3, PTW and Conquests as 3 different games. They each have thier own entry in your start menu\all programs listing. In your case, you *must* start Civilization III and not PTW or Conquests.
It does not matter where you save a .sav file. You have to remember where and be able to browse to it with the load game interface by clicking 'Load Game' from the main menu. Try to keep different versions of the .sav files separate and obvious as to which game they are to be played with.
Clicking on a .sav file from windows explorer will not (should not) do anything.
