Thanks Brad, I appreciate it.
(civ'ing out on civ4 on new macbook pro as i patiently wait)

Eh, Brad, all three spoiled people with Macs powerful enough to run Civ IV can surely wait a bit for a patch. Work on OUR patch now! :D

The last post was July 22nd, so I was wondering if there was any update on the patch's progress. Code of Laws is a good one. :(

AFAIK, development work on it is done, at least for now. Our build engineer is prepping an installer, but he's got one or 2 other installers to finish first. Then it goes through another pass in QA (IIRC) and if it passes that, it gets released. If not, it comes back to me for more fixes. It should be painfully clear by now that I personally have no idea when it'll get released, other than my optimistic hope of "soon". ;-)

Hi Dedalvs, welcome :wavey:

What's your problem with Code of Laws? The only problem I can recall was caused if you queue research projects. The workround was ... don't queue research projects :). I did offer to fix saves where the issue had occurred, but had no takers after the first successful one I performed surgery on. I would also have added a fix to FileValet if I'd known the patch was going to take so long to appear.

You might as well. I'm sure this will guarantee that we'll release the patch within a few days time of you. ;)

Yeah! Maybe that's what you guys have been waiting for ;)

Hi Alan,

I'm actually the go-between for my girlfriend's mother, who's the one that's been having the problem (she's not very web-friendly [-savvy?]). She said that it crashes every time she gets Code of Laws, similar to what others have said. I saw a post by your earlier saying that it occurred along with putting multiple projects in the queue, and asked her about this, and she said she never does that--she just picks the new tech when she gets the old one. As a result, I didn't think it was the problem she was referring to.

Since I haven't got first hand knowledge, though, tomorrow I'll try it out myself--both queueing multiple projects without ever getting Code of Laws, and single-queueing directly to Code of Laws (and also not to Code of Laws). If one of the work-around strategies works, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the reply!

If you can get a copy of a save that displays the problem for a non-queued Code of Laws, I'd be interested to have a look and see if it's the same issue. If it is, maybe I *will* add a repair facility to FileValet.

Well, after hours of playing, I was never able to duplicate the problem. I played without queueing anything, and that worked, all the way up through Code of Laws (and beyond). Then, just to see if I could duplicate the problem mentioned by others, I queued up everything I possibly could, and still I couldn't get it to crash. I opened up my girlfriend's mothers old saved games--ones that crashed previously--and they didn't crash now. So...as of now, I guess there's no problem. If she tells me it starts happening again, I'll post again and get a save state, but until then, I guess everything's all right. :)

I've been noticing the same problem with a new copy of Civ III complete for the Mac - it dies with the PediaIcons.txt message in 1914 in my case. I've not made any changes to the game at all.

Hello knirirr, welcome. :wavey:

If you *really* mean you haven't made any changes then I assume you don't have Rev A of Civ3 Complete? If that's the case, you should test using the Rev A patch and see if it still fails.

Thanks for your reply. It looks like I've got version 1.22 not 1.22a, so I'll apply the patch and give that a try.
