C3C Redux: Six months with no patch.

"Nonstandard means" refering ONLY to waiting until Civ6 is in the pipeline so we can buy the bundle of Civ 5+expansions, and then download the unofficial patch required to get it to work. Or possibly getting from a friend who is sick of it because of the lack of patching.

Otherwise never justified

I think it probably is a good idea to just stick with Civ 4:BTS unofficial patch until Civ 6 is in development.. at which point the Civ5 and all non-obsolete expansions, ie no Warlords although I liked the barb senario, can be bought cheap and the unofficial patch should be able to solve most problems (unless Blizzard picks up the rights to make Civ5... in which case it will be something like 2020 when it gets released, but it will be properly patched)

CIV V? CIV VI ? NOoooo!!! :run:

It's Microsoft that desperately needs a new patch or a new version

Historically, Civ drives my needs for a bigger and better laptop. I don't want to buy one with Vista as is.

First, I want the Vista issues solved! Then they can design a CIV V to run on it, then I can buy the new game and a new computer.

And when comes the final patch for Civ 3 Conquests??

C3C was left with an uncomplete semi-patch by Firaxis and there are a lot of civ-fans, who are not very happy with Civ 4. They are waiting much, much longer than the fans of Civ 4, that Firaxis patches the bugs they left behind them. As it seems, that C3C was the last game of the civ series with a 2 D graphics engine, which is much more comfortable for modding than the 3 D-engine, the other big part of civ-fans shouldn´t be forgotten.

So please do your moralic duty for the fans of C3C and finish the work you have left uncomplete and partly broken.

Do you really believe in this? You're indeed patient:lol:

Never. Firaxis mentioned a long time ago that there would be no further patches for Civ 3. Around the same time that they announced that they had started working on Civ 4 in fact.

I'm not even sure they'd be allowed to do another patch since Civ3 is owned by the competition.

Didn't Take Two buy all rights to the Civ title, including past versions as well? I don't see why Civ 3 would be considered something different, it would just be another part of the franchise.

I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if this is what will happen with 4. I appreciate Jon's intentions, but that isn't an official statement. Its just hearsay. I have seen hearsay fall through on multiple occassions on these boards in regards to Civ 4 from Firaxians. I am live in Missouri, the Show Me State. Show me the patch, and I will believe it.

We'll get a patch, a few weeks after Civ Revs goes gold. The priorities are clear, and at this point, since the BTS community has been left out to dry for so long, I'd rather wait till Firaxis pushes their cash cow out the door and has some time to do the (most likely) final patch right, rather than continue the poor performance to date relying on the community.

Also, for the love of god I hope they do Civ Revs right-- while you CAN patch console games, it's more for tweaks and less for the usual "major oopsy" corrections we see from software release dates being rushed. But I'm guessing that's what caused the delay from June to July and Firaxis will have things well in hand.

That will probably never be fixed. The reason is because it's the same text string with all units, with the unit name added in. The diplo text is a good example. You will never find the text string "America declares war" ever in the XML. Instead, it's "[OUR_CIV] declares war". This creates a few situations with bad grammar.

@Deanej, its fixable.
You write a regexp grammar parser string, and pass in game text thru it before output.
Text Based adventure games and muds, could do complex action/verb parsing by doing a language grammar parser, which can wind up being just a handful of lines of code.

Dworkin's string parsing is the most notable in recent times, that I am aware of.

Of course you need to write the proper regexp parser for each language that CIV is designed for. Its probably pretty low priority, compared to game mechanic balances and overall gui-improvements/accessibility.

We'll never, ever get a patch.

C3C was promised a patch for a while before it suddenly wasn't.

Likely, but it is annoying as hell.

It might as well say "Axe attack Chariot. Chariot win."

If I were a game developer, and I saw people fighting themselves like a rabid wolfpack over my games, even if I don't care a $!·%·? about support... what's the point of patching anyway? We are a big part of the problem, gentlemen. Do you think Bhruic or Solver will be always there to take the chestnuts out of the fire?

Oh, and that goes to other companies as well. After all, Firaxis has yet to beat the records of leaving HoI beta status along with making us waiting 2 years for 1.04 Victoria... And Triumph Studios with AOW:SM...

The only worthy company I can think of these days is Stardock.

If this was a few years ago, I would of noted Gas Powered Games. But they pretty much abandoned DungeonSiege II for Supreme Commander, which was still alpha/beta at the time. Compared to how great the support was with DS I, the lack of support disappointed the whole mod community immensely.
Myself among many others I imagine will not buy another GPG product. The only thing I personally might consider, is if a third DS game comes out, to pick it up when it hits the 5$ discount bin.

We can all complain about Firaxis-et al. We should also bear in mind they(Firaxis) are well aware there is the "unofficial patch". Which if I'm not mistaken has delayed an official one, along with their goal to push Revolutions. There would be little to no point in releasing an official patch that only duplicates Bhuric's fixes. I really don't believe Firaxis is the evil company a lot of complainers here are trying to make them out to be.
Hopefully I wont have to eat my shorts, but I bet the patch will be significantly more than just a couple of bug fixes.
