That's true, I should. I remember Plomp saying something winky-nudgey in that thread, like "don't let it get TOO out of hand" but I may have mis-read that. So I could be wrong, it happened once before.
And I don't mention it to indict you guys for trolling CFC, really - just to illustrate how weird it is that we can't say the word "troll" when we are being openly trolled by trolls who freely admit they're trolling.
It seemed clear to me that the Plomp really didn't like it. Anyway CFC was certainly being trolled. In particular the moderators of CFC were being trolled.
It raises the point of how closely a forum should be moderated, If there is that liberty to call a troll a troll then that liberty will be taken in the fullest measure and exchanges of flames will be inevitable. People will be driven out of the forum. OTH If nohing is done about compulsive trollers they will degrade the ambience of the forum and drive people out. Generally the inveterate trollers seem to a very small minority. I think a banning a few habitual offenders may be the way to go without getting over excited about the occaisonal lapse from the sensible members. (After all there is a grey area of interpretation. was a post a troll or simply a strong expression of views?).
I don't think it would be a good idea to accept calling a troll a troll for the CFC OT. I think it would eventually have very negative consequences and lead to a number of people leaving but the trolls would be the ones leaving, they would be doing the driving out. I say this based on my experience on the virtually unmoderated Poly OT and the well moderated Paradox OT.
