A few thoughts:

1. You can Report a troll and comment all you like... unburden yourself. Within reason, you're not going to get infracted for a private comment in a reported post.

2. If no action is taking that means one of the following:
*No one has noticed. Rarely happens. At worst there are delays. A day or two has been the longest I've seen an OT go w/out acknowledgment in the staff forum (then again, I've only been on staff a few weeks)
*No action was deemed warranted. Unfortunately, due to the large number of RPs, we can't reply to each RP w/ a notice of if we acted or not.

3. If you really think something is egregious or you don't know why an RP wasn't acted on.... PM a mod! There is no harm in asking or bringing something like to the attention of a mod you either trust or have a good opinion of. And like an RP you are at much more liberty to discuss things.

1/2 the moderators have their status set to hidden, so it's hard to tell which moderator is around to talk to.

One thing thats painful for me to see is somebody being trolled and not seeming to realize. Because you want to go "Hey, that guy's trolling you." But you can't.

I think Ive been trolled a few times. But I dont remember any specific details.

I don't have a problem with any of the OT mods. But If there's something going on that I want to speak to a mod about, I don't want to guess which one is available. All of them go the odd week on occasion not checking in at all.

As I've brought up before, a lot of the problem with OT is not the mods, but the fact that they have selected a group of mods that don't have the time to get the job done. So they either need quite a few more, or pick some that have greater availability.

The workload of the OT moderators is.... unimpressive. And yet it doesn't get done.

The Birther thread comes to mind, here. Users at Poly were openly discussing plans to troll CFC OT - with the Poly owner's blessing - but we here at CFC are not allowed to point that out or WE get infracted. That's a little backwards, IMO.

Actually the Poly owner was rather annoyed with us about that, you should get your facts straight before you say such things. There were a few troll posts and that appears to have stopped.

As for the birther thread. The Poly poster you are probably thinking of is not a troll, he was being his normal self, a jackass.

That's true, I should. I remember Plomp saying something winky-nudgey in that thread, like "don't let it get TOO out of hand" but I may have mis-read that. So I could be wrong, it happened once before.

And I don't mention it to indict you guys for trolling CFC, really - just to illustrate how weird it is that we can't say the word "troll" when we are being openly trolled by trolls who freely admit they're trolling.

I wished I could have simply posted a notice saying, "We're being trolled by a few individuals from Apolyton; please ignore them." But I doubt that would have been looked on with favor by the admins. The main thing is that CFC did not return the "favor" - and for that you may pat yourselves on your backs.

Why would you think I have no idea when I have discussed with you the fact that I have done pretty much the same thing? Do you think moderating one large forum is considerably different from moderating another large forum?

I haven't forgotten. But not all forums are alike. You can't lump all forums of a particular size together and say that what is so in one of them must also be so in the others.

And I repeat: You have NO IDEA what else is going on behind the scenes in addition to what is visible to everyone. It's much more than you think. I'm not saying I think you should be "impressed." But don't belittle something you don't have all the facts on.

I can confirm that Perfs trolls and spams the Apolyton OT.
In fact, that is what he is doing right now.

By your definition you are wrong, since it has to be moving. Anyway trolls generally live under a bridge.


Anyway the definition it is generally used is thhat you ar trying to get someone to do something they should not be doing, so calling someone a troll is basically doing the work for them.

I think I will do this then, as there is a member who is a troll (and so obviously so I do not understand why he isn't permabanned) and yet the last several posts of his that were clearly bait were never infracted.
