Currently i am creating my definitive byzantine set. I try to model buildings that are existant, but can always use some advice as to what would look more authentic.

Here is what i have at the moment:

The centerpiece is the Panagia Chalkeon. The houses were modelled after buildings in the Agion Oros monastery community, and the walls approximate the Theodosian ones :)

The architecture appears a little too modern and tudor style (oak framed buildings) for Byzantium (in the model) but it looks good.

Thank you :)
The houses were based on monasteries in Mount Athos, so they should be quite historically correct, although at this scale i could not really include all details such as windows.

It depends what time period you are using. Mt Athos has likely been estensivly updated during its 500 year history since the fall of Constantinople. You still have the 'tudor' look going on with the buildings. Heres a picture to illustrate my point:

Note the white walls and the dark wood crossbeams.

I agree, it has been changed over the years, but i simply did not find any other example of non-religious normal buildings of the byzantine era, apart from the apartments of the monasteries there.

If you have other pics i will be gratefull :)

The picture I put up was of Tudor style architecture in England to illustrate my point bout the black beams you have on the walls of the buildings as not being really 'byzantine' style.
In addition, it all depends on what time period you are going for on the city art.

I know, i meant pics of byzantine buildings ;)

The period is anywhere from the late 4rth century to the 14th century. The Panagia Chalkeon (centerpiece of the small towns) is of the 14th century, while the Nea is of the tenth, and then there is the monastery of the Hagia Laura in Athos.

The centerpiece of the large towns needs no introduction ;)
