Can You Go Back To Previous Civ Titles?

If I even play Civ these games, I'm loading up V and Vox Populi. VI and it's lack of mod support ever measured up to modded V's peak imo. I don't think I could go back to early Civ titles, even though I was quite fond of III and IV.

I can't. I played my first Civ game in '93 and have played every iteration since release; including revolutions and the CtP knock offs.

At this point I have more hours in Soren Johnson's Old World than I ever put into Civ5 and Civ6, combined. Civ7 continues the trend of making me realise that this franchise just isn't my type of game anymore. It's going to be the first one in the franchise that I don't buy, and theres just no going back, really - Old World gives me almost everything I want from a game of this genre.

I do still play Imperialism II from time to time, though. That's a classic.

I gotta say disappointment VII sent me back to give Old World another try and I'm really enjoying it this time through. The more I play the more I appreciate the genuis of its design. I think it may be hands down the best 4x game released in the last decade

I don't play 6 much. But I still play IV and V, and from time to time I play II.

Soren Johnson’s games are… too effective on me. I sit down to play for an hour and there goes the whole day. Old World does this on me, as did OTC before it.

so I’ve learned to mostly stay away… it’s genuinely too addictive for me to handle

I still play Civ V all the time because it's very chill for a Civ game. Really only have to build 4 cities and then I can just building/wonder spam on most difficulties. I wouldn't want Civ to always be like that but it fills a niche for me when I get tired of managing tens of cities in Civ IV or VI

I still like to go back to Civ II even, I find the pixel art and sound effects and advisors so charming and nostalgic. I really forget how to play optimally though other than scramble for the Great Library

I still play Civ5 regularly. I love the game mechanics, civ design, leaders and warfare and the fact that a city is just contained to one tile. The city expansion ruined Civ6 and its a shame Civ7 carried it on. The map just looks cluttered.

The sound effects in Civ II are still the best. Playing that WWII scenario that came with the base game is a delight just to listen to.

I can jump in to any of them, it just depends why.

I can easily get into a game of 3 and 4. This takes little effort as they are my favorites. I naturally gravitate to these with 4 being my favorite.

I can play 2 and 6 pretty easy but the staying power runs out on both.

Civ 1 and 5 I struggle with. I dont care for 5's design. 1's graphics and music are rough (though very nostalgic) and I have to be in the mood for it.

I am hoping 7 takes a spot with 3 and 4 but I do suspect I will need expansions or something to get it there. Maybe good mods could too though.

I occasionally go back and play the previous title or 2 when a new Civ comes out, but as time goes on that gets rarer and rarer. Every game has its own charm, that makes me want to go back for a game or 2.

having started with the franchise with 5, once 6 came out I pretty much never played 5 again. is also a trend I have followed in other franchises I play, aka Vicky and Crusader Kings, where once the new game comes out, I don't really play the old game much anymore.

I've recently gone back to civilization vi. I love civilization VI and I'm really looking forward to civilization VII but c3c It's just a totally different game that plays way different that scratches different inches than the newer ones.

Also you can mod it by editing text files And slapping in 256 color pcx files.

I have played all Civ series since Civ 1. Civ 1 & 2 was bad imo. Civ 3 onwards were better in subsequent series. However, all Civ 1-6 series had similar gameplay.

Civilisation VII, has for the first time changed many of its gameplay techniques. Based on previews, I looks nice and fun compared to earlier series. I expect there will be minor glitches during release.

I foresee that Developers has vast ideas for subsequent DLC with new Major gameplay / techniques (guessing), modding, new Map type, etc.

All of which, will keep me addicted for One More Turn.

I regularly rotate through all the Civ games of my childhood, as well as some of my other childhood older games (although thankfully many of them have been remastered - AOEII, AOEIII, AOM, and there's even an SCII mod to recreate SC:BW - so I don't have to actually go tinkering with installing games clearly not meant for Windows 10 and modern hardware) and I likely will continue to do so even after VII comes out.

Right now I have an itch for Civ V, but I spent a whole year basically playing Civ III and IV both vanilla and with various mods (I return to Caveman2Cosmos and CivIIIWorldwide every couple of years to see what's changed and am always pleasantly surprised at the progress). Civ VI I have a love and hate relationship with, haven't played it recently but have put a few hundred hours into it when it first came out and I do revisit it every year or so.

As the title of this thread suggests, how many of you can actually go back to older Civ titles and play deep, immersive playthroughs?
Can't see me ever stopping playing civ4, well until I own every slot in the Hall of Fame at least
