Can You Make A Fleet? (An Army Unit As A Naval Unit)

I can't be the first to bring up this question or idea. I want to make a fleet unit for my naval units. It would work indentically to the Army unit where you could load naval units into one just like the Army unit and its ability. Let's see....A victorious Elite naval unit could produce a Leader(sea captain). This (sea captain) or unit could build an Army(fleet). I love this concept. If it works on land then it should work on the water. I've tried to make it happen on the Civ3 Editor, but to no avail. I'll keep trying! Is there a way?

Don't tell me I need an editor for the editor:(

No, I dont' think you can create an Army with naval unit. I never seen a leader coming from a naval unit. How could it be? It should drown!

Instead you can stack naval units to build a fleet, for example some battleships and a nuclear submarine (for the stealth attack) escorting some transports fill of ground units.

Schei...

No Drake, no Blake, no de Ruyter, no Tromp, no Tourville, no Rodney, no Suffren, no Nelson, no Teghetoff, no Togo, no Makarov, no Hipper, no Cunningham

On the bright side however; no Medina Sidonia, no Persano, no "Arch-Bark" Milne, no Lütjens! :goodjob:

Hmm maybe you can somehow implement a rebase function on the army so that even if you make it on land you could move it on to water(This would be through a hacked i think). Im not sure if you can have a normal army and a naval one at the same time. As for the computer it wouldnt make much diffrence cos the computer rarely make armies and when they do they use them very badly.

This means that if you really want a army on water you can make one (i think). Just create them on water/sea connected cities and the only change would be that they are a sea unit.

But do the computer understand how to use a water army? Or do the computer understand how to use two kinds of armies? Can you choose between them?
Dont think so.

Its just like the workers on sea problem, the computer does not understand how to deal with them. You have to do it yourself. This is just what i belive though. (Did i miss something?)

napolean was a great navy leader i like the idea of it but i dont think it can be done. i would love how ever to be proven wrong

I'd be interested to see that, but I don't think it would totally change the game or anything, it'd just be a nice extra feature, especially if you have a naval UU, as they are currently rather disadvantageous compared to land UUs.

*takes deep breath*

The closest thing is when an elite amphibious unit attacks, an MGL can form on the sea tile. He can't move, even onto land, but if you move a transport under him he can board it. There's a screenie somewhere.

Or just change the actual hard code, if you are hacker/programmer enough to try. :)

Even if you had for example a modified Improvement like a Naval Academy to build fleets.....Do you know how awesome that would be? I know one of you veteran Civ3 gamers can do this. {Sigh}

Yeah.....Wishful thinking. I will find a way to do this!

Good luck. I've always disliked the lack of naval leaders, or at least the lack of any ability to create a naval fleet as well as a terrestrial army. History has plenty of great naval military leaders (see Pyrros' post) with their victorious battles.

Blockade system is also unsatisfactory to me, I recall in Age of Empires you could have a mobile trebuchet that unpacked when in position, and became immobile. It would be nice if you could get a frigate, and tell it to "blockade" a certain harbor. It's hard to be certain of the game's scale, but I think fewer ships should be capable of a blockade.

A long time ago I also had that idea but I never delved into it... but I think it could be done so I will do experiments if I can do it.

I don't promise anything xd. Greetings!.

The Civilization 3 Conquests v 1.22 editor does not have and as far as I know, the option "ARMY" or the "ARMY" option cannot be adjusted in naval unit actions or in air units. For this reason, the system does not allow you to complete the create army operation, however you can enable the option to load both ground and naval units and certainly air units and select the ARMY option in functions or skill characteristics. So let's say it could be done but not completed because the ARMY function is only in the ground troops.

But could this option be unlocked for the naval and air forces? From a special program or an editor that I know there are hidden functions around here, perhaps that option could be added.

The mechanics of creating Armies such as ARMED FLEETS and AIR SQUADRONS should not break the game mechanics.

Could it be possible to enable that option in the editor somehow?
