Spoiler :
TORONTO (Reuters) – A Canadian truck driver has been fined for smoking in his vehicle because it is considered his workplace, a police spokeswoman said on Friday.

A police officer saw the 48-year-old trucker driving on a highway in southwestern Ontario with a cigarette in his mouth on Wednesday, and gave him a C$305 ($290) ticket.

The Smoke-Free Ontario Act, adopted in 2006, prohibits smoking in an enclosed workplace or enclosed public area, and that extends to work vehicles, said Constable Shawna Coulter of the Ontario Provincial Police in Essex County.

"We enforce the legislation and this truck driver was in violation of that," she said.

shouldn't smoking in vehicles be illegal?

News articles I post are ones I see in Gmail.

Wow, reminds me of good old times googling "crazy laws"

The law was the idea of bureaucrats and politicians to improve "public health"

These sort of laws always put people into situations like this ugh.

I saw a colleague of mine's husband smoking in his delivery van this morning.

Report him for disregarding our public health laws.
Seriously this is the first time I heard of this law. I should watch out, because this law I NEVER heard of and I wonder what other laws I never heard of that were enacted against our own common sense.

Probably because the law seems to be taken to a silly extreme in this case.

Even so, they don't usually cover domestic affairs, much less unimportant ones, but w/e. Maybe it'd make more sense depending on what kind of cargo the trucker was hauling.

I don't see a problem here. Granted it's a bit silly that he was alone at the time, but if there had been a trainee/coworker in the cab with him, then this should absolutely be enforced.

We have had a smoking ban in workplaces for a few years now.

What a stupid damned law. Seriously, can you get any more anal?

What's wrong with Reuters?! First Fox, now Reuters?

Yes. How the hell do you have a Santa hat out already. It's people like you that diminish the joy of Christmas by stringing it out an extra goddamn 2 months.
