I probably won't give enough details, but here goes nothing.

I (Rome) have islam religion and was able to buy missionaries. Then I conquered France (christianity). So, in Rome I can no longer buy anything with faith. But I can buy with faith in Paris. Nothing was pillaged in Rome and I have a Shrine & Temple there (shrine only in Paris).

So, if I buy with faith in Paris am I buying Christian missionaries? Also, any idea why I can no longer buy anything with faith in Rome? Actually, cannot buy with faith anywhere other than Paris. My faith number is at 1255 at the moment.

Islam is the dominant religion in 2 cities. Holy City of Rome. H/e, no followers in Rome, but I do have 6 followers of Islam in Aquileia and 1 in Rouen. There may be a reason, but why can't I buy anything with faith in Rome?

To buy with faith you need

1. Holy Site District (shrine for missionaries, temple for Apostles)
AND
2. The city to have its majority pop following a religion (ie Religion is dominant)

it appears you lack #2 in Rome, and #1 in Aquileia

you have both in Paris... but the units bought are always of the religion of the city

Thanks for posting the requirements. I'm not sure I'd seen that before. So, does this that mean if your holy city pop flowers aren't the majority, you're religion is dead in the water, because you cannot sugar the religion any more ever? Or do you wait it out and your religion may grow to be dominant again in your holy city over time (without getting religion bombed by another civ )?

Now I'm really confused, because I was able to buy a missionary in rouen which had Islam as the dominant but did not have any hot sites iirc.

I'd like to say that's a bug, but I'm leaning towards your information just being unreliable.

And.....you're right. LoL. Just fired it up and Rouen does have a holy site (thought it was another quarry). But again, back to the main question - so if you lose the majority religion in your own city - is there any way to get it back or is it gone forever that easily? It seems like it would be super easy to spam other cities once you get the first religion and just end the spread of other religions from the very beginning.

if you lose your religion it is gone forever the only way back is if it is close and you kill some enemy missionaries to reduce their religion then buy settlers to reduce pop so your religion is dominant. then buy an apostle start an inquisition and keep an inquisitor on your holy city..

The only civ that can come back from a completely dead religion is Spain with Conquistidors as the convert the city to your religion and then you can do the above.

the reason behind being able to completely destroy a religion is the religious victory. I go at conquest i can kill you and boom your are not going to reappear in 50 turns and suddenly attack me. So if i destroy your religion the same thing is true.
