Cannot change civics

It is a very annoying and disappointing problem that I get on BTS.
Whenever I want to change the civic (and start revolution), I cannot do so because the Civics window does not have OK button. All I can see is Cancel. I tried selecting a new civic (Slavery for example) and simply clicking Enter, but this doesn't work.

I mostly can go around the problem when I discover a proper technology (like Bronze Working) and agreeing to the revolution promtp. But in case with Democracy (which allows two civic changes) I can only change one.

By the way, I also notices thatseveral interface labels are not internationalized. For example, instead of Marathon i see somethong like BTN_KEY_MARATHON_XXX (can't recall exactly), and similar for Custom scenarios.

Anyone with any tips or ideas please?

perhaps you have not these civics available yet?

Aha, it worked. As you can see in the game speed section, the label for marathon is weird looking.

Right now, I cannot start a game to show you a Civic window, but I will try to reinstall and then get a screenshot.

OK, I reinstalled BTS, so that the game does not crash anymore (after patch 3.13).

Here is the screenshot of the Civics window. I just discovered Bronze Working, got the prompt for revolution and adopting Slavery and replied No.
Then I got to Change civics and get the following screenshot. How am I supposed to change something. By the way, clicking on Cancel also does not have any effect.
I willreally appreciate any help.

Are you still getting the TXT_KEY_GAMESPEED_MARATHON? That's an indication that at least one file is either missing, or incomplete. That certainly could cause problems in other areas as well.

Actually, I noticed that labels similar to TXT_KEY_GAMESPEED_MARATHON are all over the place. And no, I am not using any MODs.

Actually, after I tried playing custom MOD senarios, it was a total disaster - graphics, interface, invisible units. A ery-very buggy gameso far. I fee like going back to warlords until decent patch is realeased. I tried installing 3.02, 3.03 - these did nothing good. Aftre installing 3.13, the game started crashing.

Or remove every trace of your old installation including saves and replays, then reinstall Civ 4 and then BtS followed by patch 3.13. I had a problem with some corrupted files, which this procedure cleared up.

Bushface, I already have done what you suggest - clean install from the scratch, that is. Did not help.

Bhruic, thanks for the suggestion. It is quite today already, so I will do all steps over the weekend. Thanks

I had the same problem and it took me a painful full afternoon to finally resolve it.
In fact I had the same problemS:
- TXT_KEY_MENU all over the place
- no button other than Cancel on Civics and Religion screen.

Browsing the internet I saw that some people were saying that the TXT_KEY_MENU problems are due to XML parsing problems, due to locale settings not being... US. That sucks A LOT, but I recognize the usual US attitude to believe that the whole world is going their way... don't take it bad though, I live in the US and enjoy it :-) Anyway, my PC was set to French locale settings, so I changed it to US.
No improvement in Civ IV even after several reboot.
Finally yesterday I took the time to uninstall everything (patch, Beyond the sword extension, Civ IV), cleaned up all Firaxis and Civ IV folders, then re-installed everything again: Civ IV (from a DVD bought in France !!), patch 1.74, Beyond the Sword with the 2-CD bought in the US, patch 3.17, all of this with locale settings set to US.
And it worked !! No more TXT_KEY_BLABLA, and also, now I can change civics and religion.

So the minor side effect is that I have to keep the US locale settings to be able Civ IV. Oh well...
