Can't Break 3000

Hey guys,

I've just finished 3 of my best ever C3C games...

First one, I played the Mayans, Regent, won a UN vote (after some rather heavy, pre-emptive brown-nosing).

Second, and Im not sure this applies really, the Phoenitians, Regent, in a Conquests (whatever one it is where the game ends after all 7 ancient wonders are build)

Third, my first ever success with the Romans, Monarch level, winning around 1950 with a domination victory.

All games set to random land/age/barbs.

I was especially happy with the Monarch level game.. having never used the Romans before, OR an approach where I was mostly concerned with commerce.

Thing is... even after an apparent successful game, I've yet to actually break a total score of 3000...

Where do these 10000+ pt games come from?

If this has already been answered a billion times, and/or listed in any FAQ.. gomen nasai..

I don't know about other people, but as a builder, I get a lot of my score from rediculously high culture in most of my cities. That's been the trick in bumping it to 8000+ in some cases.

To get a really high score, play on a huge map with climate set to warm, wet, 5 billion years. Take over as much land as you can, but stay under the domination limit. Then destroy all of the other civs except for one, and leave them with a single city to avoid a conquest victory. Irrigate everything to get high populations. Get all 8 luxuries. This will make cities of size 20+ with all happy people. If you win a Domination victory, reload the game and sell all cutural improvements to keep your borders from expanding. Just keep playing until 2050 like this. You will get a very high score. This is called "milking" the game.

Step 1: Read "Maximizing Your Score in Civ 3", by SirPleb

Step 2: Download some of the savegams from the HoF, and see what level of expansion is necessary by 10AD - measure your own progress against those games at this date

Step 3: Read the HoF Forum

Step 4: Milk Game :)

Turn up the luxury as much as you can afford it. You need as many happy people as possible. And another hint to use the domination limit. Sea squares do count for points but NOT for domination limit. so you can have as many sea squares as you want and get lots of points

You can also play with the Aztecs, Mayans, or maybe Persia on a tiny map and try for the ealiest conquest possible.

I don't recommend milking games - as it is boring. If you are only wanting to break 3000, or 10000, just go for a fast finish. You can quite easily break 5000 by going the Aztecs on Chieftan, and just rushing the AI with Jag warriors. They won't have built any (or much) defence, so it shouldn't be too hard. My highest scores have come from rushing the AI :) (10000+)

Ahh ok..

I can't see "milking" a game, that just seems incredibly tedious.. Good God.. on a large map? That must take weeks (per turn)

Though I must admit, it would be nice to see my final score reflect the amount of fun I had.. although I guess 3000 isn't too bad, especially since I was using a Civ and tactics that I had never tried before.

Bumped the level up, went all Random, and got the Koreans, another Civ I've never really tried. Any suggestions for this race?

Thanks for the info...

A huge game will take anywhere from 100-400 hours playing time. As for it being tedious I can understand you point of view, but each to their own I suppose, I enjoy 'em :)

Whether you want to milk or just get more score from normal play the formula is just the same, and its explained well in the tutorial a referred to in my first post. The majority of milking time comes after the game is essentially won. So you can play a game with a milk stratagy to get the score benefits from it for the number of turns you play the game, and when you have effectively won by whatever means, just win instead of controling the game and going the full milk.

-Expand territory far and wide, and do it very quickly
-Build Population Fast
-Have a huge army of workers
-Every city that needs one gets an Aquaduct
-Every city that can have one gets a Harbor
-Get all 8 luxuries by whatever means necessary, as soon as possible - IMO this is easier than getting happiness from culture, and more fun as well :)
-Every city gets a Marketplace
-Every square outside of the productive core than can be, gets irrigated
-Every square gets railroaded
-Every city that needs one gets a Hospital

Follow those 10 points and you should see a good improvement in score without milking a full game.

best way i found is using the elimination option, i got my only score >10k this way as the Sumerians first time I did it, on Small map.

also, if you increase the level you play on i think you get more points (not sure, you definitely did in CIvII)

I find ELimination the easiest way to get the high score though I think it cheating and delete them all so my high scores I worked for :)

This is the advice I was waiting to see. Although it is also mentioned in SirPleb's article, a quick recap: Your base score is multiplied by a factor of 1-8 depending on difficulty level in C3C, or by a factor of 1-6 in vanilla.

ede, my highest score on Emperor is about 4900, and all I did was secure a continent and semi-milk and war with the other continent occasionally until I won by spacerace. It was probably my best game ever (I have never secured a whole continent before) and one of the most fun games I ever played. Btw, I used the Aztecs which are a great CIV.

My highest score is only just under 4000. Elimination on regent, with the aztecs. I thought I'd get into the high score table on cfc, but the lowest score was something like 15000! i wonder when i'l beat that...

I think it helps to play at larger maps, or? My best result on Emperor, actually my only this far, is around 8000.

I've gotten somewhere around 20K on Emperor a long time ago. I did it with the Aztecs, and their special sacrificial altars where I sacrificed many slaves to the almighty RNG god. :worship:

EDIT: Tiny Dry 5 billion Pangaea 80% water opponents iros and english
