Argh. So, I have two CD drives in my computer, both CD/RW. When I go into My Computer, they're not there. When I go into the Device Manager, it shows them, and they have a little exclamation point thingie on them and when I go into the Properties for them it says "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device." Not only won't it show them (the lights come on and everything like they're working and hooked up), but when I put a CD into either of them it won't run, it can't read it. Just so you know, I'm running Windows XP, if that makes any difference.

I was just wondering if someone could help me with this, because it's severely frustrating and I have no idea what to do short of opening the case and fooling around with them. Maybe that's what I'll have to do, I don't know, but...please help if you can, and thanks in advance!

Try right clicking on them in device Manager and Uninstalling them. Then power down the machine.

When you power it up again, Windows should find new hardware and reload the drivers for them.

Might work, might not, but a lot less hassle than wiping the hard drives and installing XP fresh.

What have you installed, uninstalled or changed recently?
