i click on it and it starts out with the window, but then it like stops reading it because just as it looks like it is going to start it goes away.

can anyone help

Mind if I jump in here, too, with my own problem getting the game to start?
I recently had to lobotomize my notebook (restore the hard disk to factory-issue condition) to cure an insane pop-up problem. (It really couldn't be cured any other way - our IS expert at work spent two days trying to fix it.) Reloading everything on it - including Civ II, of course, and now Civ II won't work! (Travesty! Like what is the point of even having a computer then?)

Here are details of my own problem: operating under Windows 2000P, Civ II classic. I get the opening message that the CD isn't in the drive (not needed, hit "Okay"), it starts to go to the next screen, and I get the error: "Civ2 caused a Stack Fault in module IR41.dll at 0002:019D. Choose close. Civ2 will close."
(Is it really a "choice" to close, when that is my only option?)
I've already tried reloading the game and continued to receive the same error. Any assistance from those more tech-savvy is appreciated.

You know, guys, there is a Tech Support forum just a few clicks away...

The most common problem I have had with reinstalls has been not installing the most recent Indeo video drivers BEFORE I do the Civ install. Uninstall whatever Civ mess you already have, then go to Cedric Greene's Civ2 site, hometown.aol.com/cedricgreene and download IV5SETUP. Make sure the install is successful and do a reboot before starting the Civ install. Aside from that, I've only experienced one or two odd situations where the video board or sound board needed a more recent driver installed. Windows XP is much better at having those drivers already than Windows 2000. Check your PC's maker's web site; you may need to find out what make and model the board is and check that site separately.
