Greetings,

I just installed Civ 4 "The Complete Edition". All the versions in the package work (Civ 4, Warlords, and Colonization) except for Beyond the Sword. I believe this version has already been upgraded to the 1.6 patch. I receive an error message reading:

"Sid Meier's Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Of course some hyperlinks can be opened, in the error box, showing a wealth of information with regard to the message. Are there any more alternatives in addition to the 1.6 patch upgrade? Thank you.

Best regards,
SSBN

The last update to BTS is 3.19. If you are only running 1.6, that may be your problem. You can download it from the Patches and Updates page of CFF. The link is on the Civ4 drop down menu at the top of every page. You may well have to update to an intermediate version and then to 3.19. I seem to recall that 3.19 requires an update later than 1.6 to be done before it will recognize BTS. Be sure to get the updates from one of the mirror sites. The primary site at Firaxis no longer exists.

I did install the 3.19 patch; however, I got the same result. Beyond the Sword is still displaying the same error message:

"Sid Meier's Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I did install the 3.17 patch; eventually, the 3.19 patch overwrote it. I'm not sure if fixing the problem involves a manipulation in the windows XP registry. In addition, I just reinstalled the hard drive. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks s.bernbaum. :)
