I wonder how many of these "oh thank God we found this bomb and defused it/arrested the carrier before it could explode - it reminds us of the dangers we face around the world" events are actually real.

What, you're implying that someone fabricates these events for some reason?

Bloody lone wolf.

Now the key is not to panic. They call it "terrorism" for a reason, folks: if you're scared and lash out, they win. If you stay calm, try the offender, and go about your business like nothing's happened, they lose.

It sounds like this guy didn't really want to hurt anybody, but he still wanted to make a political statement before permanently leaving the country.

You don't expect us to believe you would be saying that "he didn't really want to hurt anybody" if the suspect was a redneck, do you?

It will be interesting to know if he bought the airplane ticket before the event, or after the bomb failed and it got out on the news that they were able to retrieve the VIN number from the vehicle.

If he planned to leave the country, why didn't he have his flight scheduled for Saturday night rather than Monday night?

Invade France is always a great option IMHO. Maybe Poland.

No chance the US will invade France. They actually do have weapons of mass destruction.

I know right!

Ostensibly she's not going for the loli look anymore

Well now that we know he is Pakistani hopefully we can get back on track with xenophobic hysterics, which were in a curious holding pattern pending the results of the investigation. Party on!

Bombing Pakistan is surely going to reduce incidents of Pakistani terrorism too.

I believe we need to peruse a multi-pronged strategy, terrorism is a many headed hydra and the best way to deal with it is proactive. First we should invade a Muslim country to show that we mean business. I suggest Mauritania. It's Muslim and African. No one at home will care.

Then next we need to institute rigid checks to deny people access to fireworks and cars, with a No Sell list. However the obvious loophole of selling a fireworks with a car should be left open, because no one will figure it out.

At that point we should offer to negotiate with the Taliban and offer them Mauritania as a new home. The Taliban will take Mauritania and leave Afghanistan.

Freedom and democracy wins. USA#1.

We can also do everything we can to backtrack that this was indeed terrorism.

You don't expect us to believe you can simply create completely absurd strawmen like this whenever you please, do you?

"After the bomb failed"? If he really thought that fireworks could ignite propane in steel tanks and gasoline in steel or plastic containers as you apparently do, perhaps we did get lucky after all. There appears to be a basic misunderstanding amongst at least some about how to construct a "bomb" that will actually work.

Fortunately it was "terrorism" of the bumbling incompetent type.

All we need to do to make it terrorism of the competent and manipulative type, however, would be to act terrorized.

You didn't expect anything less from the Fox News crowd, did you?

Actual terrorism is apparently no longer necessary. All you have to do is stage terror theater like this, and it seems to work just as well.

But fortunately for us, A Vietnam vet T-shirt vendor and a horse named "Migs" were there to stop this dasterdly deed from being completely overlooked.

So, what? Is Obama trying to drum up support for an invasion?

What if the war is working and instead of actual months of training by skilled bomb makers, they're getting training from a guy that reads his stuff on the internet and teaches for 2 weeks?

That would probably just kill everyone. I mean before you had the 9/11 attacks, first WTC attach, marine barracks bombings, embassy bombing, cole bombing.

Now you have the shoe guy, the underware guy, and the firework guy.

He admits he tried to detonate a bomb to 'kill and maim'. So, it does seem more likely it was a bumbling incompetent bomb making attempt, rather than purposely making the bomb fail to 'be a nice guy'.

Nowhere did I say that I believed the bomb could have worked.

That is sig-worthy.

There is no way in hell it could obliterate the VINs. So either you are speculating he was one of the world's stupidest terrorists of all time, or you really don't know much about this topic.

And you are still making absurd strawmen. I never claimed he was trying to be a "nice guy". I was merely speculating that it appeared to be a halfhearted attempt, aka terror theater, given that fireworks never could have turned it into a "bomb".

Then he knows as much about bombs as you apparently do.

I think knowing how to blow crap up sounds like something a redneck would know how to do from blowing stuff up out on the farm. Got a little redneck in you, Form?

There is no way in hell it could obliterate the VINs as you just alleged above.

Did I say it would obliterate the VINs? No, rather I believe he did not know that there are other VINs on the car than on the dash (which he did remove). Why bother to remove one if he knows the others are there, and especially if he knew that the others wouldn't be destroyed?
