Is rationality and pragmatism the best reasons for what makes something right?
If not, then do we as a people care about handicapped (physically and mentally) people who have no or very little practical value to society and when many are a drain on resources?

I know that sounds like Nazism, and its supposed to, I just want to see if anyone can come up with what reasons, if any, trump pragmitism and practicallity and why they do so in this matter?

Because they're my children, and it's my responsibility to take care of them and nuture them as best as I can until they can provide for themselves. In the case of my daughter, it will be until my wife and I pass.

Simply euthanizing her because she as 'no or very little practical value' and is a 'drain on resources' is not a valid reason. Who would the mercy killing be for? Her, or me?

If we should only judge people by their practical use we would indeed have lost our last remnants of humanity.

That doesn't justify Jade Goodies existence.

Author of such pearls of wisdom as:

"Cambridge I fought that was in London"

"Is East Anglia abroad?"

"People in Portugal, they speak Portugenese don't they?"

What do you mean by "practical value"

Do they have to make x $ income to be valuable?
Do they have to be at least x times more sympathic than "normal valued " people and thus produce a social benefit ?

So will then somehow more (monetary) productive people have more value than sympathic and social people, or the other way round ?

I know some handikapped people, and your "value" idea is real rubbish.
Everybody is an individual with an individual set of stregths and handicaps which cannot be valued against each other ; I bet that no person on this planet matches "normality" in every aspect. Period.
