Also - considering the GUK's control of movements across its borders..and was developing its selfsufficiency.. why is it so effected by the stock crash?

A flying noisy contraption with lights approaches the flying object above Istanbul. As it hovers near the alien craft, it targets the vessel with a white light and flashes it five times. This is followed by five blasts of horn, barely audible through all the racket the earth craft makes.
The earth craft starts to fly towards the west, occasionally stopping to repeat the 5+5 signal if/whenever the aliens don’t follow.

After 10 miles of flight over apparently endless urbanization, the helicopter speeds towards a circular structure with a two-piece roof covering a bowl-like structure. The center is the lowest part, it is a flat green rectangle with white geometric lines, and is large enough for two Ta crafts to land easily. There is a similar green pad outside the bowl-structure, and both structures are separated from the rest of the city by gray flatlands with more white lines, and full of small vehicles (mostly green and white). Optical magnification shows the sloping structures surrounding the central green part to be full of thousands of earthlings with helmets and holding black objects. The roof has lights, and the bowl-structure is surrounded by fragile-looking towers that hold numerous lights. When the spaceship is less than a mile away, all these lights flash five times with one second interval, then flash once every ten seconds…

The GUK was affected since the group invested heavily on the European market, including the GUK. (The GUK still has the best value, which is 1 pound = 5 USD today, or 3 USD now because of the crash. Before the crash, it was 1 pound = 10 USD)

A Lieutenant enters the football field, jogs to the red circle. He stops beside it and looks around the aged olympic stadium, at the thousands of soldiers and police in the spectator seats, with guns and rocket launchers trained on the UFO. He cautiously pokes at the red circle, first with the muzzle of his rifle, then his finger. (OOC: if anything weird happens, will edit out the rest) He silently says the muslim prayer one is supposed to say before dying, and steps into the center of the circle.
A hissing sound emenates from the ship, and a thick steamy cloud emerges as a hole opens in the bottom of the ship. A platform lowers down from the ship, with a bizarre, moving figure standing on it. After a few seconds of movement, the platform is on the ground. The steam begins to dissipate, and the figure moves out.
It has a strange, bug-eyed head on top of a long, swanlike neck. Its torso has two short limbs growing from it at the top. Further down are two much larger and heavier limbs. Where one would expect a tail is a final limb, the thickest and strongest of them all. It stands on its three lower limbs, giving it a tripodal appearance.
The creature rears back onto its hind leg, and claps its two other sets of limbs together. It then begins to walk towards the small creature in the circle of light...
