actually being canadian is THE excuse. seriously. long weekend in august for the sake of being a long weekend in august. (at least victoria day pretends to have a purpose)
what do you expect people to do? go to cottage country (for you floridians that get confused by this, ours are NOT in the bahamas, liks yours, but simply up north/south/lakeward.) or drink. or both (dangerous combination)

2105: The Year of Destruction

In a stroke of military genius, the Germans have effectively annihilated most French threats to northern Europe. The Germans reinforced Luxemborgia with extreme force, pushing the French back into former Belgium. The citizens of Luxemborgia embraced their German liberators, but not for long. France launched an extreme air bombardment, in Germany and Luxemborgia. This devastated many major cities, ad pretty much destroyed villages and military bases. They also launched two explosive missiles, one at Berlin, the other at Rome. Historical sites experienced little to no damage, but the more modern areas were blown to pieces. In eastern France, Germany had pushed forward, but ground to a halt after unexpected resistance occurred. They managed to capture some ground, but it was almost totally useless in terms of strategic warfare. In Normandy, the CA met disaster. France had pushed a major counteroffensive, effectively wiping out the invasion's gains. Cherbourg was recaptured, and the CA's transports were, for the most part, destroyed. Great advanceents were made in Italy at this time. German forces reinforced Italian forces. however, the Italians were mostly incompetent and blundered protecting their flanks. France quickly took advantage of this, and crushed parts of the Italian army. However, they couldn't meet the sheer numbers they were faced with. They quickly moved into the Alps (The French), and took advantage of the little resistance. Italy will have to overcome this terrain to fully dislodge the French from the Italian Alps. Meanwhile, France took both Corsica and Sicily. The resistance thre was relatively light, and pretty soon, they used it as a base to capture Malta, and move up the Italian mainland. Finally, the EEC has sided, with France! Friendly relations between these two countries resulted in an alliance. Surprisingly, it was the EEC that wanted it. They decided to help the French, without French approval. The EEC has mobilized, and it is unknown what steps it will take. Also, some infantry have gained experience from battle.

This year, the government collapsed into chaos, as the general was impeached for taking rights away from the states, which was closing of all traffic. They made their case with the Tenth Amendment, that any right not given to the Federal government belongs to the states. The states were all hurt by this shutdown of traffic, so they 'stood up for their rights'. The Supreme Court held the state 4-3 in their favor. The general was put through Congress, and suffered full impeachment. Meanwhile, with a country with no leader, and an arguing Congress, the elections are in an extremely tight position. After several extremely tight ballots, the public chose Harold Mendel, despite the fact an Eye of god member failed an assassination attempt in September. Harold Mendel took the place of president on December 31st, hopefully the start of a new United States.

The UAPF shows no sign of stopping its resistance, as the NAU is beginning to weaken, severely. Spain tried to alleviate the problem,and managed to quell some rebellions in the southern NAU. However, the NAU is now essentially a dependency of Spain, since its military is too weak to fight the UAPF, and its citizens have led violent riots all over the country. The only place the NAU is relatively secure are the Spanish-occupied areas, mainly around Tunis. In the UAP, no fighting has occured, both sides have dug in.

Japan Begins Space colony!
Japan created a Space Dock, and started a partner colony on the Moon, with the rest of UFAR. They used their technologies, and quickly colonized the Moon with about 50 people. These are mainly miners and government officials, and have begun to mine the rich, yet dense Moon surface. The regolith problem was taken care of, thanks to a high powered drill, and a conversion machine not yet released.

The South American War
Brazil has decided to side with the SAF. However, there have been complications. A group known as the RAFB (Revolutionary armed Forces of brazil), has begun a civil war in Brazil. The group seems to be an independent group, mainly profiting from drug sales and some SAPF support. Meanwhile, there has been a one year ceasefire between the SAF and the SAPF, for peace talks. However, this might soon result into resumed war, as the SAPF is making outrageous demands, including the annexation of Peru, free passage through the SAF, and tribute for 5 years.
