Yet another question: How did Swiss, Japan, etc. bypass the Nano age and go directly to Early Space Age? Or did they also go through Nano age without me noticing (which is perfectly possible as I never bothered to read any stat block other than mine and my neighbors.)

We propose a world-wide research consortium, through which all participating nations not only share their findings, but also plan and distribute tasks or research steps within a particular project. The only reason for civilizations not to make such an efort in all areas in the past was to keep military secrets from their neighbors and adversaries. But now, we believe it is time for mankind to start acting like a civilized species and put mutual development ahead of petty differences.
The world already has the infrastructure for such technological globalization.
The consortium will:
- plan and organize "this part of the research will be done in institute A in country X, this part will be done in institute B in country Y, etc."
- collect research funding from all participating countries and distribute it properly among researchers.
- spread all technological developments that resulted from the consortium-funded research to all participating countries.
- in effect, make all participants act like a single country as far as research projects are concerned.
- not research biological and chemical weapons.
Even the most undeveloped countries can help by sending funding and raw materials. However, in order to prevent them from dragging the consortium down, all Semi-Digital participants will be required to improve their Education systems noticably, every year (i.e. 1 level per year). In the future, this will apply to Digital nations as well.
Once a list of participants is clarified, we can discuss how much to contribute per year in the World-Wide Research Consortium thread.
In international politics, the consortium will be impartial. That is why none of the countries currently at war are invited. Once they finish their wars, they may participate as well.
A country's membership will drop automatically if:
- it declares war on any other country, except if it was declared war by that country first or attacked by that country first.
- it trades technological advancements achieved by the consortium to a non-member country or entity.
The Ta are welcome to give insights to the consortium scientists.

Refining the communications between the races had been enormously difficult, given the colossal differences in modes of communication. This scientist had spent all of his earlier life as a linguist, and had developed theories and methods for translating first-contacts, but nothing could have prepared him for the real thing.
The truth was, humans had been able to make almost no advances towards decoding Ta chemical communication. One could smell and taste the scents, of course, but next to no meaning got across. It was the Ta who, after studying linguistic patterns of transmissions various languages, managed to translate their communication into very broken human noise.
The brokenness hadn't been helped by the fact that humans, believing that they were easing the difficulties of communication, responded in the same broken manner, thus creating the illusion that the Ta spoke perfectly.
And now, the time had come to fix that.
This specific Ta had landed at the facility few weeks ago. It referred to itself simply as '4', and claimed to have landed to learn about humans, or something like that.
Naturally, the studying went both ways. But for the moment, all that was being done was refining the linguistic connection.

"Negative. This is a chair. That is a chair."

Professor Orhun Hasbilge replayed the recording of his latest conversation with 4, and continued to write his report. The government required him and the team of scientists to publish all findings immediately. He knew the computer engineer and the chemist members of the team were doing the same, so that their counterparts in other countries may modify and update the translation machine prototypes the government distributed a few years ago.
A knock on the door took him away from his thoughts. "Enter" he said reflexively, but then remembered the room was soundproof, and got up to open the door. It was an ensign carrying a sealed order envelope. He took the order and closed the door as the soldier turned on her heels with the usual precision.
The order was to set the video-conference equipment and the translator. Probably there was going to be a message to the Ta from president Akkonur or one of the foreign ambassadors in Ankara...

For months, Peter Willaims, Military head and elected Prime Minister, had suspected that the death of the previous Prime Minister had been caused not by the Eye of God, but the President of the USA. Williams was not alone in suspecting Mendel, however. A General on the Italian frontline, who was often in contact with US Generals, gathered that Mendel was slowly losing support of the military to suspicion.
It was now time to get the facts straight. With this mistrust, Peter Williams turned up in Washington himself, demanding to see Mendel.
The White House refused him entry, and for a while, he stood in front of the President's traditional home declaring that if he was not allowed inside, the Commonwealfth Alliance would expel the US Ambassador.
At last, Williams' secutary was allowed inside to make an appointment.
Secutary Rob Mumbin sat down with a man who declared himself a bodyguard to the president.
"Listen," the guard said, "We have a plan for the future, and it doesn't involve weak nations like the CA. This is a plan to ake a United States Empire."
"Well," Mumbin replied, "If you will act like so, it will mean a breakdown of relations with the Commonwealfth Alliance of Australia and New..."
Mumbin felt his body control fade away, and he fell to the ground, dead.
The Bodyguard laughed, and removed the plastic seal on his mouth. Nerve gas was such a great weapon in diplomacy.
The CA and US publicly remained Allied, but Williams never trusted Mendel again.

I only have 2 orders, and frankly, I'm surprised that knigh+ is the only person who has continuously sent in orders, besides Charles Li, who really needs to make them more detailed, and germanicus, who only began active participation recently.
