Caveman 2 Cosmos (ideas/discussions thread)

Yes. I think it is properly called Space Scenario with Space maps. Earth is still a random continents map, but Space is pre-set. Right now, I have 327 cities, and I am melting down financially. I rush-bought too many things and didn't focus enough on building money-producing buildings. I am on turn 10459 or 52.3% of an Eternity settler game. On my next game, I will play Chieftan and try to be sure I get the Earth Pangaea map. I will put off wiping out at least 1 or 2 opposition civilizations so I can keep someone to trade with. I will tinker with the other options on setup, but I no longer like to choose random events because of the killer flu that kills off 3 out of 4 population cities, and also has IMHO too many fires. I am still having loads of fun and my goal is always not just to win but to research ALL of the technologies and put a Space colony or city as close to the center of the Universe as possible. I have also been freezing up quite a bit because of the limits of what my computer can do with this game.
hey, I did some games in nightmare eternity, one of them was until transcendent era, maybe you could find some info how to avoid too much expenses https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/snofru-space-map-v9-large-nightmare-eternity.674676/

about speeding up production, it causes inflation which can be a huge problem because it increases all costs multiplicatively, I try to avoid it altogether (which means keeping it at 0-1% or at most like 5%, tracking what is current value every time before speeding up, and only using it for major wonders, so that rate of turns saved to inflation is the best), now that it's too late I would consider changing all the civics to ones that reduce maintenance from number of cities and overseas kolonies (largest source), and also look at value "civic upkeep", build things that are reducing maintenance directly like (if I remember correctly) palace of soviets or giant firewall? keep crime and disease low, also some civics have direct negative modifiers to inflation (was it gold standard or planned/regulated economy?) while some others have positive (guilds or mercantile, not sure)

soon I might start another game, hopefully svn still works, so you can maybe ask me. Turn times can become problematic in later game, my pc can handle it well until around cosmic, at this point it becomes few minutes per turn:P still so much better than it was some years ago, I remember these large turn times already happening on medieval era, maybe that's why there was someone calling the mod "caveman2castles"

Thanks, Tramwajg!! I thought during a lot of the game that I had runaway gold and got too cocky about Rush-buying lots of Wonders and Science producing buildings. Now playing in the Prehistoric Era of a Chieftain difficulty Eons speed with Random Events game.
