Caveman 2 Cosmos (ideas/discussions thread)

I am just over 300 cities with no other civs, and most of my cities are in Space. I have colonized most of the Solar System and maybe 30 cities beyond the Kuiper Belt. I am just over 50% done with my Eternity, Settler game, and I am researching Galactic Federation. If someone could tell me if it is possible to read my saved games, I would appreciate it!!

What map are you using? Pit's Earth or something else?
Can't load your save - breaks at the very beginning of loading, must be incompatibility issues, not just a big save issue.

I am using Space Mod with the largest size random Earth map. raxo2222 was able to read my Space Mod saved games but that was quite a while ago.

Yes. I think it is properly called Space Scenario with Space maps. Earth is still a random continents map, but Space is pre-set. Right now, I have 327 cities, and I am melting down financially. I rush-bought too many things and didn't focus enough on building money-producing buildings. I am on turn 10459 or 52.3% of an Eternity settler game. On my next game, I will play Chieftan and try to be sure I get the Earth Pangaea map. I will put off wiping out at least 1 or 2 opposition civilizations so I can keep someone to trade with. I will tinker with the other options on setup, but I no longer like to choose random events because of the killer flu that kills off 3 out of 4 population cities, and also has IMHO too many fires. I am still having loads of fun and my goal is always not just to win but to research ALL of the technologies and put a Space colony or city as close to the center of the Universe as possible. I have also been freezing up quite a bit because of the limits of what my computer can do with this game.

To find Space Mod, go to Custom Scenarios and Custom Games on Game set-up when you start with the latest SVN.

Seems to be the opposite.
The Space MODmod is a Game Option that has to be Enabled and then Turned ON.
It's explicitly different from using a Space MAP, which is just a normal map with some Space terrain edited into it.
The Space Modmod is a very basic Multi-Map feature instead - you literally TELEPORT to ANOTHER map layer, not just fly to a different terrain on the same map.
Thus, if there's Space terrain on the starting map - then it's NOT the Modmod, but rather the old "different terrain on the same map" feature instead.

I thought multimaps was still in Beta and not included in the latest SVN, so I must be mistaken. There are a lot of things in C2C that I don't know about, and I have been playing it a long time. There seem to be fewer modders active now and more chatter on Discord than Civfanatics. I have never seen a random space map, just the actual Solar System and Milky Way, etc.

Somebody613 if you could give us a step-by-step direction as to how you set up and then choose options for this Space Mod with random multimaps game that you are describing, I would LOVE to play it sometime. I am definitely playing with a space scenario with a random Earth map and a pre-set Space Map. I am not great at knowing which files to copy and paste.... No hurry...

That's not what I said, unfortunately.
There's NO random Space map option as of yet.
There's NO real Multi-Maps option as of yet.
What IS there:
1. It's technically very easy to MERGE a random Earth map with a premade Space map under certain conditions - the Space part has to be ON THE RIGHT from the Earth part.
It's still only partially random, obviously - the Earth part can be randomized however you want, but the Space part has to be hand-crafted in WB.
Sadly, there's still NO script to randomize Space itself (and I'm rather surprised and upset about it, let's be honest).
2. One of the last normal SVN updates included the option for a "multi-map" Space - you could "teleport" between [Earth] and all sorts of [Planets] and further [Space Regions].
It's currently hidden, I think, and has to be turned ON in the files (have to check details, it was too long ago).
When this option is enabled in the files, you can choose it in Game Options as well, and then your Space-related units get the "teleportation" Mission button alongside other buttons.
You simply click it, and your unit "teleports" to a non-[Earth] map.
It's buggy, it's very alpha in most senses, but it's there and really technically WORKING.
So, yeah, we DO have a "sort of working Multi-Maps" already, even if it's more a proof of concept than actually useful much for the real gameplay.

Here's some visual PROOF, lol: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/its-aliiive-multi-maps-is-a-go.691228/

Cool!!! Can't wait for multimaps to be completed. Thank You, Somebody613!!!
I... wouldn't have much hopes for ANY serious progress happening to this mod the way the situation is NOW, unfortunately.
Most big modders quit, one of the main ones is trying to kickstart a REBOOT, of all things (and THAT would be just awesome), and the rest had moved to Discord for some reason.

Too bad!!! I just started a brand-new game. I believe that it is a Space Scenario, Pangaea Earth Map, and Space Maps game. I also chose Chieftain difficulty and Eons timeline. Can someone tell me how to confirm that I am playing with all of the options that I wanted and that it includes a space map, because I have had trouble with that before???

I don't currently understand all of the ins and outs of Discord yet and for some reason it's not letting me post. I very much prefer Civfanatics because I have used it since Civ 2 first came out!!!

A REBOOT of C2C? And who might this modder be?

@Osk21
I checked it myself yesterday.
You have to go to Assets/Modules and edit MLF_CIV4ModularLoadingControls.xml file.
Find the option about P2K_Multimaps_Test and edit bLoad from 0 to 1.
That's it, now it's automatically enabled in the game (no need for any Game Options now).
You can test it quickly by giving yourself all techs and creating a Space related unit of the Space Worker type.
They should be able to use Missions (aka action buttons) to "teleport" to the maps of other planets.
The first time you do it, you'll need to end the turn, then the next turn your unit will be on another map, and there will be a new round button at the top-left part of screen (next to BUG).
That one will let you switch between planet maps (instant, no visible loading at all).
This is still buggy and will annoy you with screen-jumping glitches, but apart from that, it more or less really works.
Note: The outer space (and further) units aren't developed much yet (they don't even have real Missions), but stuff like Satellite and Lunar/Martian Crew should be interesting to mess with.

Naw... people just want to take as full advantage of you as they can. Full stop. If they can't they go to India. They're happy to pay 30k for a cult of personality to con the crap out of them but try to provide a real service and all they have to do is keep stretching you further til your time is now worth less than minimum wage. What starts as 3k for a job that should take a few days or a week maybe ends up being a year's worth of half the week poured into their ongoing demands to keep from them chargebacking. I mean, sure, when they go overseas they can get knowledgeable slave minded people who are willing to take micromanaging so far as they can understand you, for some $5 an hr and since you don't know what you're doing, you don't realize they really don't either. But at least you get someone willing to bang at keys for what you can afford that way. Meanwhile those with more $ just hire a team and don't need anything anyhow.
Do you by any chance work in IT or social media? Because this describes my experience with the field to a tee.

Calling the workers of nations that are the receivers of offshoring "slave minded" is cruel but accurate, I honestly don't understand how those people can work so hard and not go completely insane, I find it inhuman but admirable.

Just sayin' but if the GOP get their way you won't HAVE a soc sec OR health care coverage at all. The fact you have a paid off home is amazing - I truly fear for the wave of unemployable retirees that suddenly have no income at all and lose even the tiny rentals they have now on fixed incomes when those programs are removed. I've been waiting most of my life for any kind of affordable health care options and as I begin to fall further and further into unmedicated diabetic conditions it becomes clear I probably won't even have medicare there when I get old enough to warrant it and i'll probably just die an early death. I'm really not sure why anyone blames dems for this when the only reason any socialism such as medicare and ssi exists is because we push for it to stay.
Wouldn't really call that socialism but fair enough.

Wish you the best Thunderbrd.
