Caveman 2 Cosmos

Ah. I see, thanks for the explanation, Dancing Hoskuld, whatever a Hoskuld is. :)

Foreign Trade Routes, with all the wonders and buildings that increase foreign trade route yields are amazing.
With the civic that gives you a lot of hammers and food based on trade route yield, you can easily give your cities a decent early game boost to production, when 10 extra hammers actually means something. :)
And later on in the game, even without the civics changes, you can give a massive bonus to your cities science through commerce.
Easily over 100 science per city with how many trade routes and cities you can get.
100 multiplies fast with all the science bonuses.

One of the only ways to not take 12 turns to research tech in the modern era on Marathon speed. :)

Hoskuld an English version of an Icelandic or Norse person's name. Very roughly it could be translated as meaning Elder as it is a combination of "grey" and "head" or "hair". The actual shade of grey is "wolf grey". I picked it up from one of the Sagas, Njal's Saga I think.

Ah. Thank you! I was curious.

Something I noticed a long time ago, and I always wondered, why does the zoo and petting zoo give -1 hammer? I just am curious.
People have too much fun and forget to work? :)

Also, I thought I saw that the Montreal Biodome was improved in the SVN patch notes.
What does it do better?

Oh, and I feel bad for my enemies trying to do anything with their warlord chief, because I just bring in my Warlord Colonel and they be dead. :)

Basically yes. It is a game balance measure.

Also, I thought I saw that the Montreal Biodome was improved in the SVN patch notes.

Instead of hard coding which animals it will spawn it now looks at the XML and spawns any of those that have "SUBDUED" in their name. This is not perfect as it should also restrict them to those you have had contact with. Also it should probably build "TAMED" animals instead of "SUBDUED" but we don't have many of those yet.

Warning: Post is long because of many things I've discovered.
Ah. Okay. Neat change.
And thanks for confirming the -1 hammers was a balance thing. Although, -1 hammers doesn't really do anything.
I guess that yeah, people have too much fun.

I mean, the Olympic Games completely nuke Military Production, so there's something to say about how bad too much happiness is. :)

Also, it seems like extra Anarchy for the education bonus is an odd choice, since it has no effect after the Cristo Redentor is built.

I also have to say, maybe the Tourism penalties should be reduced a bit.
I was not aware Tourism is significantly worse than Anthrax, Smallpox, and Bubonic Plague combined. Seriously, I don't get the penalties there. IF we're going for realism, well, I have a huge list of other realism things you haven't done. :)

Also, did you guys fix the Utility Fog having the nuclear meltdown flag, because it's required for building other buildings, and it makes no sense to be forced to build something that causes disasters.

I understand you can't change the properties of the meltdown flag, and it's for disasters. But other than a nuclear power plant, I can't think of too many buildings that would deserve an actual disaster flag. Maybe I'm crazy.

Also, if it's not fixed, please tell me how to fix it myself.

I think we can all agree that after you change all the major things, there are a lot of minor things that need tweaking. Let's face it, that's true for everything, not just mods for Civ 4.

I want to say thank you for all the tweaks to Crime and Disease buildings and units so it's easier to avoid crime and disease buildup! Thank you so much for that. Please now add air pollution fixing buildings, you have way too few of them, even in the future. Seriously, building 30 Ecologists in every city is not a suitable fix.

Also, what is Corporate Manslaughter? And how do you accidentally kill a corporation?

But really, is being a nitpicker worse than say, being a hidden unit who likes to capture your workers? I'm not asking for a Great Scientist named DavidB1111 with the flavor text of, "This is wrong, this is wrong! No, that's not how nuclear meltdowns work! ARGGHHHH!" :)

Although, if you do that, I might stop being annoying. :)

Also, does anyone think it's funny that in real life Nuclear power plants produce much less radioactive pollution than coal power plants?
Nuclear waste is not a pollutant, it's a byproduct. People tend to forget that.

Hi David, I like your way of "complaining" :goodjob:

The "meltdown" is in there because Hydro, who made those buildings, likes SimCity, and there some hi-tech buildings can cause bad things. The only real bad thing in civ (or the easiest) is the meltdown-thingy. Events are more appropiate, but "harder" to code. IMO, I don't like meltdown on Utility Fog or Solar Power Satellites as well, but Hydro want them to be in as easteregg and I understand that. Look for the "iNukeExplosionRand" tag in BuildingInfos files. Set it to 0 and they never happen (IIRC).

All the other things you tell us about are also not hard to change (those little tweaks), but they are plentyfull and time comsuming. I'm enjoying an awesome trip through Australia after I finished my work here but might have some time again in April.

Have you ever considered learning to change those things by yourself, so you can check if they have the desired effect? It would help us a lot if you could say: "X is wrong, I corrected it, and it works pretty good.",rather then only the first part :)

Changing disease tresholds for certain diseases, tweak :yuck: or :) with techs or anything like that is really just a matter of copy and paste and changing numbers in a text document.
The hardest part is finding the files that contains the building ;) You might want to check out this page for most tags and their effects:

If you have questions, feel free to ask!

I'm glad someone likes my complaining style. :)
I don't mean to be the most annoying guy.

I could try to learn how to deal with the code, but my brain would explode.

And Hydro, your Easter eggs are crazy. :p

The nuclear meltdown only happened in later versions of Sim City 2000, and occasionally in Sim City 1. I know this from person experience with a nuclear meltdown in Sim City 1. Took 40 years to clean that up.

I was really irritated to find out that they added it in to the Sim City 2000 via a later addition. Especially with Microwave power plants.
Having the best sources of power almost completely crippled unless you turn off disasters, is rather mean-spirited. This is something they fixed in Sim City 3000.

However, this is not David explains history lessons of video games Vol 1 of 50,000. :)

Events also could help, or go the way of the superflu event that eats 46 pop on a 44 pop city, returns them all, and one of the options give you 70 turns of city revolt. LOL wut. That really needs to be fixed.

Speaking of events, please tell me how to make them more frequent, so I can see a lot more of them.
Or you guys could add 150 more of them. <Insert Kappa sarcasm emoticon here> :trouble: maybe?

I have no complaints about the Toxic Waste Dump anymore, except that I think New Jersey will sue you, Hydro. :)
That's their fault.

But I do have a complaint, only about the Utility Fog having it. Because it is forcibly required for other buildings. The Power PLants are optional, and if an optional building hurts people, I have no complaints.

I think the best solution would be to create a technological wonder that stops all meltdown related effects. Rendering the chance, even if it's 1/10000 moot.

Honestly, if I wanted tedious micromanagement hell, I'd go play with Revolutions mod enabled. :) Because people in real life are really that cranky and picky. IF they were, we would have never had civilization in the first place. :crazyeye: I'm sorry, but once I personally have a bad experience with something, I never let it go.

Regardless, if I can figure it out myself, I can change it back.
Nanotechology is a lot friendlier and safer than nuclear power plants, and nuclear power plants are the safest power plants in the world currently.
Until we get the fusion power plants online.
People give Nano way too much flak. Build in self-destruct code in case of crazyiness, and no Von Numen Probes taking over the universe.

And sorry for the wall of text. I'm really trying to not make people die of old age while reading my posts. I just can't help it sometimes.

Hey, at least I'm not complaining about the really minor things anymore. Though, I do wish whoever made the Prostitution Ban affect Strip Clubs would at least tell me who he is.
Is that too much to ask? I honestly just want to know.

True - Strip Clubs do not all equate to prostitution. Well not in the UK. Maybe they do in other countries.

Not in the US either.

I'm just curious. I'm thinking it was a typo or something.

So, I just got the awkward event that a reef magically grew under my ship, a frigate, and magically sank it with it's magical reef powers being sharp enough to cut through my frigate's hull.

I do believe there should be a limit to how long into the game that can trigger.

I know a frigate's hull isn't as strong as a modern day battleship, but I don't think that was fair. :)
Perhaps that event just needs some fine tuning on what types of ships it can magically eat.

Because really, a reef showing up out of nowhere is not really a thing that happens. Volcanic activity? I'm just saying, I can make like 6 frigates in one turn from all my coastal cities, but still.
Poor sailors, they were just minding their business, and then a reef grows and eats them.

Oh, and how come no one has ever mentioned the six Harmonies ear destroying gibberish white noise?
Can you please change that Wonder to something that will not blow a hole in a solid steel wall 40 feet thick on the dark side of the moon from the sound alone while it's on Earth. I'm not even joking, if there was ever a way for sound to travel in the depths of space, that noise would do so.

Seriously, that is ear-bleeding at the very least.

I have no idea how that ever passed testing for this mod.
It's not the only wonder that does that, but I forgot the other gibberish noise maker.
I can't be the only one that hears the undying painful gibberish, right? Because that's not fair, you guys. :p
I know I can be annoying, but attempted murder seems a bit much.

Ah. Okay. Good to know I wasn't going insane and hearing noises. :crazyeye:

That sounds like one of my really tortured allusions. They sound fine in my head! ;)

I never noticed because I don't play with the sound on. :p Too many Other things going on in my house to be immersed in a games audio.

Well, you do look like a Dremora Lord. :p

And well, see, there's a good reason for my bug reports. :p Some people don't notice the difference.

At least I was one of the only ones who tried combat in the modern era, that helped a few things as well.

Still, hoping to figure out how to fix the Utility Fog so the entire world doesn't explode because Hydro. :p

So, I'm up to Representative Democracy, and the building for Human Rights Declaration gives +100% War Wariness along with a lot of nice bonuses.

I'm thinking, wouldn't declaring human rights be extremely helpful for a war? It's a powerful motivator for fighting, thinking you're trying to help free people from those who would abuse them?

Maybe I'm not understanding the point of it. Maybe it's like the Great Lighthouse and it's adding Flammability to the city despite stone not working that way according to the Second Law of Thermodynamics. :)

No, but seriously, I'd just think it would benefit fighting bad people.
Not that War Warriness is a massive issue. Especially with a few cities having no unhappiness. :)

Just curious how Human Rights makes people angry for fighting bad people. :) Like planned labor giving unhappiness for slavery.
Then again, since Communism is a Utopian ideal, it would make sense.

Speaking of, do you feel like adding in Communism as a form of government, like in Civ 2, where it's useful. Because they actually got it right. :)
"There are too many governments already, David." is probably the answer though.

IT would be neat to see other future civics. I mean, Post-scarcity? LOL wut is that.

Also, a new tagline idea for you mod. "Caveman to Cosmos 2, your cities will violate the Second Law of Thermodynamics! :crazyeye:

iNukeExplosionRand is already set to 0 so it must be something else.

Hmmm the Modiki says it's that, and in the Microwave Power Plant it is set to 1000. Where did you find the Utility Fog entry?

I couldn't find a "Strip Club" either

Human Right:
If you want to change it, that would be:
open C2C/trunk/assets/XML/Buildings and then "BuildingInfos" (with a normal text editor). Search for HUMAN_RIGHTS_DECLARATION
and then the line: <iGlobalWarWearinessModifier>100</iGlobalWarWearinessModifier>

That's a percentage, so if you want -100% just put "-100" between ><. -50% would be >-50< etc. Easy.

The Great Lighthouse is equally easy, but I have no idea where the file is. I expected it to be in the normal building files, but appearently it isn't

It's called a Gentleman's Club in the game, but it's the nicer name for strip club.
Kind of like how they censored the Harem pic. :p

I don't mind the Human Rights thing doing that.
I was curious.

Also, maybe they fixed the Utility Fog?
I don't know. We'll find out soon.
