Caveman 2 Cosmos

Hi all.

First, thank you so much for this wonderful mod !

I have a problem with my saves. I launch Civ 4 (BTS), select my save, the mod is loading but after a time, stop and back to the window screen, with no error message. I tried to load the mod first (it's working) but when i launch the save it's making the same problem. i have the version 28 of C2C.
The map is medium size (more it's unplayable, to much memory allocation error), and the save do 5,8mo.
Someone have an idea ?

Thank for you time.

Dear Strategyonly:

Greetings from Baker Street! I hope this finds you and yours well.

I think I must've unzipped into the wrong the last three times I tried to get my hands on this mod. Could you please tell me exactly where to unzip it? I was thinking the BTS mod folder, but I could be wrong. Thank you kindly!!!

Sincerely yours always,

Sherlock.

I'll do ya one better, see attached.

How long do you wait to load the game?

My saves load about 6 minutes and it happened before I thought it was a crash.

I didn't wait a long time, i'll try.
Edit : wait more than 15 min, no loading :-(

What are your PC specs like?

i5 3450, GTX 570, 8go of RAM.

The most basic question of all: Did you update manually to BtS 3.19? The auto-updater does not correctly update.

I play on steam, i don't believe that i can do it. Or it's possible ?

Similar problem here. I dowloaded c2c version28 into a mod subdirectory called caveman2cosmos28. Now downloaded the new version (as caveman2cosmos) but saved games still look to caveman2cosmos28. Any thoughts about how to get a saved game to look to a different game directory?

(As a temporary fix, I have renamed the new version directory to caveman2cosmos28 - but over time that's going to get confusing!)

Cheers Alan

Saves embed the mod name - it is not possible to change the name of the mod. HOWEVER, there ia technique you can use provided you still don't need the actual old version for some other purpose, and this is what I do for loading people's test games (I have like 20 different names since I have to reflect what the test saves I am given use). Do this:

1) Install mod to whatever 'real' name you want to use (recommend you leave it as Caveman2Cosmos)
2) Start a command prompt, running as admin
3) In the command prompt cd into your mods folder (the place in which 'Caveman2Cosmos' installed in step (1) is a subfolder)
4) Delete any old version you may have (or rename it away) so that the name of the mod the save you wanted to load is not there as a subfolder
5) Enter the command 'mklink /D <name of save game mod folder> <name o real mod folder>'
e.g.:
mklink /D "My Save Game mod" "Caveman2Cosmos"
Note - if the names contain spaces you need to quote them (as in the example)

This will create a 'link' which is effectively a virtual sub-folder which actually points to the exact same content as the real one (effectively you can think of it as an alias - kind of like a shortcut but at a lower level).

Once this is done any save that uses EITHER name will load, using the version of the mod in the installed 'real' folder.

As ls612 pointed out above, since you can get the Mod to load this is not an issue. However, this probably means that you have Civ4 Complete. I seem to recall that this version has it's own issues with Mods, as it installs things in different places, or something like that. You may want/need to search the forum for further information.

EDIT: Decided to do the search myself. Refer to the first point made in post #6 of this exact thread and also to this thread:

That info is outdated, I use Complete and no changes are needed (aside from patching).

Hi all!

I have a Crash-To-Desktop which is reproducible. Is there any site which might tell me what to do and how to track down the error? I also would have the savegame if someone is interested in nailing down that issue...
Oh! I am using Caveman2Cosmos v29.

Best regards,

Marshell

First off, Welcome to CFC and trying this great mod C2C!!

We have all kinds of threads for everyone, look at some of them, but here is one for bugs/crashes, see first post how to do, and again thx. It will probably be a week or so, because Koshling is taking off this morning for a trip.

There is a good chance your CTD has already been fixed, you should download the recent SVN version and have a test if you don't wanna wait that long (until Koshling's back) and continue the game without starting a new one.

Hi strategyonly and DRJ,

thank you a lot for your welcome and the hints. My bad that I oversaw the bug forum. Sorry for that. I read the description there and will post accordingly later. Let's see whether the latest SVN version has my problem already fixed.

Best regards,

Marshell
