I have a giant map 13 civs counting myself, 13 land masses and 5 big islands. I don't see this lag in my game, around 27 cities, uncovered 4 land masses so far, 100 bc or so.. little over 20% of game done.. Snail pace.
I reloaded once and got a MAF but that was very early on. I reduced my anti aliasing too 2x instead of 8x, no issues since.
I sure wish we could fix the snake sounds lol growling snakes in the game just is silly to me every time I run across one.

That is great to hear, brute needs some tweaking, he is useless, I wait till clubman before I build any offensive units. lol

Yes yes the brute sucks in comparison and I know it. I'll give the dude some balance factors eventually here. I've been considering making him an effective anti-barbarian, great at dodging and bonusing him (like maybe 10%) in city defense and capture. And making him a little cheaper.
He's just stuck in an awkward stage of mod development - there'll always be pockets of imbalance as new features are implemented from the combat mod - until its pretty much complete and given a final balance check. In this case, the features that were implemented that made him kinda pathetic in comparison were early withdrawal and some of the overall changes to the throwing line concept.
