Caveman2Cosmos for Civ 5

Wait, this is a game we are talking about... How do you propose to "dump the square or hex" and still keep it simple and Civilization-like?

You can impose a grid onto a real map. That is all you need imo. You take all of the percentages within that block and determine the type of terrain. Like where the idea of NASA stuffing being converted to civ4. Instead just create a map from real data and put a grid over it. Randomly generating stuff though well that require some work.

@anyone

I just wanted to mention it. I have no hopes for the Civilization Franchise. I really don't know why I am posting other than I was excited about being able to mod so much in civ4. The game I really do not care about anymore. If you go free though you will lose your base of people playing the game. The majority of people do not play free games at least I think that is right. You would not have a forum section here if you did not buy civ4. I mean if you would make a free civ game, you would not be allowed in this forum to post about it. So really it is a dead end street which is the summary of future civilizations games to me. It is just getting dumber. Civ 2 was great for its time because it was complex compared to many games. Now the game is just rehash of simplifying ideas the same ideas.

WELL THEN> When you get done with all your classes and the such, lets make this a REVIVAL of Civ4, with YOUR ideas then, then you cant say that anymore, because it will be YOUR ideas, so there:p;)

I really like Civ4, infact, its the ONLY game i have owned now for 3 years, i dont even buy anything else. COME ON, join:help: in the fun again, you know you REALLY want to, i can see it in your writings, so there:p:p:p

I agree with this 100%:)

Its not possible without me destroying this mod. Sorry just too much to do. I suggested a mod name of Civ Reboot, but there is no one that agrees with how far I want to go. Because it would be too much work to do it all. Sorry sure if I lived in a sealed vault where time did not progress it might be possible. I will not be totally free till another year. I do not want to add something to base that does not change most core things in Civ 4. You guys are not probably agreeing with me of removing civilizations that last from the beginning to end. So really there is no way for me with my ideas to help you. The stone age is as important as all of the metal ages to me. I do not care about look here this guy has a iron sword with a bell on it versus just a iron sword. I will shush now, but I really do not think you want my ideas in your mod. I do not mean I am not interested, but I am not understanding your design. It seems like a huge kitchen sink mod with just interest in expanding the basic civ ideas that I do not like.

But without the kitchen sink, its hard to clean the dishes:sarcasm: Ideas are ideas, some good, some bad, but STILL ideas!

Please do not get me wrong. It is a hell of a lot better than core civ 4. Just I want to go farther.

You know me better than that, i never take things wrong or harsh. Well at least harsh:lol:

You with me then i want to take it to the limits, as far as we can stretch it.:assimilate:

Yes more or less, but I may just stretch it till it pops. I don't know if the engine can handle my ideas. For example, my gripe with the map itself.

ahahahahaha, you ought to get with Koshling and AIAndy then they are the BEST at what they do, i believe they are even better than the personnel at Firaxis and i said that in the E-mail i wrote to them also.

Yes they have done a lot. I can see. I just hope people do not dump to much stuff on them that never made sense to begin with. Even like my ideas....test...can not do....works....what the hell good is that.....well we have pretty lamas now.

I think you need to get more familiar with C2C before you decide to bash it. Likewise if you want to improve it then help us do so. Out biggest problem is that so many people complain whats wrong but no one actually gives solutions or will give the time to fix them. Its easy to be a critic but hard to be a problem solver.

Note that I totally understand where you are coming from. Its a lot easier to make up your own game from scratch where you get to set the rules. Its a lot harder to join into an already established project.

I suspect you and I are not too different in our creative ideas. However I hope you understand I am not just going to chnage all the stuff I worked so hard to build just because you showed up. There is no way for me to make everyone happy, especially someone who has vocally said they do not want to help out.

I wish you the best with your own projects but unless you want to be a team player I think it may be best if you don't shake things up around here. I hope you understand that I am a bit defensive about C2C since I would like to keep the team and players happy and not loose them to pipe dreams of a new game engine or re-inventing the wheel so C2C is not even recognizable.

EDIT: A good analogy would be, lets say C2C is a Buffet. It has lots of types of food and you cannot possibly eat it all in one sitting. Anyone can eat there for a cheap price and not all the food is great but there are some favorite dishes to choose from. Some may even say there is too much food to choose from.

Johny Smith is like a fancy restaurant owner. We want his fancy food to be added to our buffet. We already have some great cooks at our Buffet. I personally don't want our cooks or customers leaving our buffet and would benefit us if his food was added.

However Johny thinks that the Buffet is too much and his food would not do well in a Buffet setting. Which may be true. However despite this fancy restaurant this doesn't mean the Buffet must be converted into a fancy restaurant too.

Because sometimes you feel like a Buffet and sometimes you feel like a fancy restaurant.

Ok let me get this right. First we are talking about moving to Civ 5 Civ 6 and etc. I am saying they is not going to happen. strategy says help and sush unless you help with the teams mod idea. I say I want to do something different. I have read what you guys are doing. I am not interested in building on small things. You guys created something very large that is building off of ROM, a gigantic mod that used a lot of stuff. New stuff was thrown in to add spice to the buffet that Zap started.

Now C2C has a superbuffet. I just feel I am only concerned about the appetizer and feel I like skipping on the 7th helping of desert that relies on the steak to go down well. I am not here to make a cool balanced mod that the wider public will praise for tweaking this or that. I am disconnected with the civfanatics community. I want to change things that I think were flawed in the core of civ4. You can build on civ4 and improve a lot things with it. Great have fun. I will try the mod out. I am not interested in building on more when I think civ4 needs more fundamental changes. So no because I am not interested in it does not mean your idea is bad. Kitchen sink was meant to represent holy crap look at all the stuff for better or worse. A large context is always nice. My idea of shifting something so basic civ4 would not be compatible with you mod. It would screw a lot of things up that you have worked quite a great deal on. Stick with the path.

P.S.
Its your fault now that I am going Vegan.

We have stood on the shoulders of Zappra and Afforess, I am not denying that. I am also open to new an innovated ideas, but not at the cost of removing a bunch stuff. One great thing about C2C is that we keep adding on to awesome stuff or re-make existing stuff to be better. There has only been a few time that we have actually taken features out without replacing with something new, which was a Civic that adjusted gold and we already had too much gold in the game that it was not even needed.

As the food analogies go, I can make the best steak ever but if your a vegetarian your still not going to eat it. If Civ4 is the red meat then your idea is the healthy choice. While I would love to eat healthier and give up red meat I just can't give it up. You are always welcome to join the BBQ if you so choose.

Erm, Vegetarian - not Veterinarian. The former eats no meat while the latter is the pet doctor.

From my point of view it seems as if johny here doesn't want to add food to the buffet, but rather reconstruct the restaurant around the buffet. Granted the new layout may not jibe with the buffet originally, but the buffet can always add/subtract or even just be redistributed and reorganized to fit the new building.

I agree Cavemen to Cosmos is Civilization 6.
It is built on the backs of so many mods, and so many people have contributed to it and it's components, that it is the ultimate civilization community mod.
Certainly the inspiration, experimentation, and openness of the mod team has made that possible.

C2C is also exploring new concepts so quickly in a free way that building a new engine from scratch, or hoping that a game company will come out with a better CIV, would derail the current pursuit of improving Civilization as quickly or with our input.

I think that by attracting the right modders, with the right skill sets, encouraging everyone to contribute openly for the love of bettering CIV, and giving C2C a chance to mature/ prove it's worthiness and carry it's current momentum, that the next C2C and Civilization will naturally come from C2C. Let use C2C to prove that the ideas are worthy, that C2C can be a great example of what the next civilization could be, and make the team complete.
I would support seeing how far we can go with C2C.
This way we can guarantee and prove that we can and should be a part of the next Civilization.

We all can do our part to help them get there and be a part of it! :)

Never going to happen. C2C is just too complex and has too many features for the average player to make sense of it. See also the post about Civ getting dumber.
Some features of C2C could end up being used though...

Oh, ok, that seems an interesting idea. A little bit like what Alpa Centauri does for terrain height...

You would not have a forum section here if you did not buy civ4.
Yeah, how come FreeCiv doesn't even have a sub-forum here? Not enough players interested?

The biggest issue with Civ 5 in my opinion is how they decided to rip out the most common aspects of the Civ experience and now are charging for these aspects VIA DLC! Espionage and Religions for example. The don't seem interested in making it a good sequel only to make the $!

I own Civ 5 and have around 400 hours playing it. I keep trying various Mods hoping it will be improved! In most cases the improvements that are attempted simply crash the game. Since Gods and Kings has been released the game is about 15-20% more fun. In the end Civ 4 is the best especially running C2C! I agree with someone else comments, C2C is like Civ 6!

Though I keep running into memory allocations errors, Hell I bought an SSD drive to speed up access hoping that would help. I wish it were possible to Mod into C2C to use all available RAM, I have 8 gb on this machine it only uses 2gb sadly. :/

Well your in luck then, with the NEW version that is out, there is a NEW item called "Viewports" you can check out the thread, it will eliminate "almost" all of the MAF's in Civ IV. Again check out the Viewports thread, its pretty interesting.

Thanks Strategyonly I will check it out! :)

While multiple maps is a very interesting idea, I have my doubts on whether it would be practical in regards to the player's gameplay. To represent Space, it might be better to have planets be represented as "circles" within the general map, rather than be alternate maps which would be switched to:
