CD Drive Dissapears

Not physically but when I put the Civ IV disc into my computer the icon for the cd drive dissapears from "my computer" and I can't access the disc to install it. (Run D: etc all dont work)
Really annoying, doesnt happen for anything else but CIV IV.

I have a similar problem execpt i can install the game, its when i try and run it that the dvd drive vanishes and windows moans about unsafe device removal. I guess its to do with the copy protection but in my case none of the workarounds i've seen on here work (alcohol120%, sd4hide etc) although i haven't tried to update the firmware on my drive (yet).
