What happened today? I hope it doesn't happen again and again- two saturdays in a row where I got up ready for a nice long day of posting and was denied denied denied. I had no idea what to do with myself and ended up having a nervous breakdown when CFC DISSAPPEARED ENTIRELY!!! I was sure this was the dreaded "Al Qaeda attack" we've been warned about. Finally, this evening it came back on miraculously. What a mood shift, I realized I am now officially a CFC junkie...

Oh yeah - TF posted something on the front page...and it was a horrendous 6 hours of NO CFC...

This was particluary bad because I had seventeen e-mail replies from threads I've suscribed to.

I hope that Telefragged never has to move the server again, or else I'm stranded for quite a while.

You're telling me! All those emails just sitting there, no chance to read them. It drove me MAD. MAD!!!

I am feeling a bit better but am on the "endless loop" of opening an automated response, going to the thread, reading, replying, opening the next, etc. etc. it goes on for hours...

I could have written a pretty thick book if I had applied this energy to offline writing!

TF is buying his own server next year so we won't have to deal with these problems from telefragged

You mean, he is going to move it again some time next year? Agh!!!

-Serious aside, what does buying his own server entail? Do you buy some kind of computer array? I would love to know more about the 'business end' of this website.

A server cost money, LOTS of money if i'm correct. Now i know that a group of servers are like a bookshelf type thing, servers can take up quite alot of room.
Also, i would think since TF would be moving the server himself the forum won't be down for so long.
And again with our own server we won't have to put up with Telefragged :goodjob:

But I mean a server is like a big computer that you leave on all the time and is hooked up to cable modem?

yeah thats pretty much it

Not just CFC, the entire Telefragged network was down.

Now that the server has been upgraded and moved to a new location, we shouldn't have any more downtime anytime soon... :)

Yeah, look at www.rackshack.net. Guess who else gets their server from there? Apolyton! There's also bandwidth prices here. (I'm not sure where TF will get it, or at what price)...

Anyway, the server is "cheap" ($3000) compared to the line costs, which I think a good one is about $300-$800 per month. How can anyone afford that? ;) It's like... paying rent on a 2nd apartment!

Umm.. :yeah: CFC is an "apartment". ;)

So, the $800 per month line is $9600 at year's end, plus with a $3000 computer, that's $12,600!!!!

TF is gonna need extra income. :) I wouldn't even know the first thing about it... (though, some advertisers I think pay something like $1000 per month, which offsets the cost)

And just to think I started out at the Pre-Poly merger site...

You wouldn't believe what I did that dreaded day: I posted a little at Apolyton, signed up at Gamecatcher, and even went to a forum about...I'll admit it...another game! :( I'm very sorry, TF...;)

CG

EDIT: This downtime may cause me to play less and less civ: just read some previews/reviews and watched some clips about SimCity 4 and Metroid Prime...those should bite into my civ time ALOT when they come out...:D

You people need to get out more. :p ;)
