The Eagles are defending super bowl champs and the jaguars can’t say that. The Jags would be dangerous with halfway respectable quarterback play + Fournette back, but neither of those have happened yet to the best of my knowledge.

Nahhhh. I meant rings, as in if you look around the locker room he has a ring, he has a ring, he has a ring, he has a ring... etc etc like thirty times...and he has a ring. @Sommerswerd wants to use 'rings' as in the number of dusty Lombardi trophies in a case somewhere in a hallway of the team facilities instead because that works better for the 'niners than "well, that free agent we signed has a ring, and...hey that guy has one from when he was a backup on another team, and, and, ummm, and, yeah, our locker room is actually full of has beens and straight up bums who will likely never be."

I wanted to make a Lord of the Rings joke here but I couldn’t come up with anything. :(

@Sommerswerd wants to use 'rings' as in the number of dusty Lombardi trophies in a case somewhere in a hallway of the team facilities
Correct.

I actually use your counterpoint sometimes when I argue with my cousin (I'm a Lakers fan and he's a Celtics fan) about who has the "most rings". He takes the "dusty shelf" approach, of course, since it's the best (only) approach that benefits his team, while I make the more creative argument(s) that there are more living Lakers players with rings, and that there have been more individual Lakers players to actually win a ring, since the lions share of the Celtics titles came on just the one group of guys that played with Bill Russell.

I'm sure he appreciates the novelty of my arguments at least as much as I appreciate yours ;)

I get no end of amusement that when people use the 'rings' argument support their guy as the GOAT, and Russell's 11 rings are brought up, they
immediately go into full weasel mode.

And thanks Steelers, for picking this week not not play down to your opposition.

Another fun stat, so far this year sommerswerd has lost 10 points by doggedly sticking to his home team the 49ers. If he had picked with the consensus (what the majority of other pickers chose) in SF games this year, he'd be sitting in sole possession of 2nd place with 133 points:
Week | Matchup | Consensus | sommer's pick | Points Lost | Total
1 | SF@MIN | MIN cov | SF win | 2 | 2
2 | DET@SF | SF cov | SF cov | 0 | 2
3 | SF@KC | KC cov | SF win | 2 | 4
4 | SF@LAC | LAC cov | SF win | 1 | 5
5 | ARI @ SF | SF cov | SF cov | 0 | 5
6 | SF@GB | GB cov | SF win | 1 | 6
7 | LAR@SF | LAR cov | SF win | 2 | 8
8 | SF@ARI | ARI cov | SF win | 2 | 10
The other out-and-out homer, Light Cleric (Saints), has fared much better, largely as a result of his team being much more likely to win on any given Sunday. So far Light has gained 6 points by picking his team against the consensus.
