In addition, Atomic Theory also can not be traded, so there are two techs leading to the A-bomb that can not be traded (the long-range bombers tech can be traded). Japan can go for the A-bomb. There are some uranium sites in China that they could use. The Commomwealth would have to get uranium from the US in order to actually build A-bombs (unless they took some N. Chinese cities, in which case their building the A-bomb would be obsolete anyways).

The Chinese and Netherlands take a long time to research anything and the US and Commonwealth will (usually) share their techs, that is why all experienced players will have all Chinese and Dutch players put all research at 0.

It seems that they don't really know too much about this scenario at all, from that forum topic.

Turn 2

The Imperial Japanese Forces have struck victoriously again. The last American forces in the Phillipines were finally rounded up (a redlined tank unit) and the Dutch forces that landed near Davao were attacked with artillery and air. The Destroyer Van Nes was sunk, the destroyer Van Ghent was heavily damaged.

Our forces leaving the Hawaiian Islands spotted the destroyer Shaw and the battleship Oklahoma so we sunk those for the Americans, that way they could save their money and not have the trouble of paying the upkeep on those ships.

In China our tank army was dismayed and shocked to see that Foochow was burned to the ground. This is against all rules of war (and the rules of the game). I'm sure this was an oversight and will not happen again. Never-the-less, the tank army redeployed and destroyed two infantry near Kunming. A redlined infantry unit south of Taiyuan was eliminated and Taiyuan was heavily shelled.

In Malasia we liberated Kuala Lumpur from the English and expect the citizens to be quelled and happy soon. On the Island of Borneo, we liberated the cities of Kudat and Sibu. Our glorious navy had a fierce gun battle with the English warships BB Repulse and DD Encounter, sinking both before the invasion. During the assault numerous aircraft and another warship were scuttled by the defenders of Sibu.

We successfully captured Menado and Tarawa with airports intact! This was regarded as a major blow to the evil Western Occupiers! We also captured Wake Island and Sarmi. I think that’s it for this month.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the Dutch flotilla that damaged my paratrooper payed the price. One cruiser was sunk, and the De Ruyeter and a destroyer were redlined.

As this is the spoiler I will give you some idea as to how all this was accomplished: destroyers, destroyers, destroyers. Since those ships are allowed to carry 1 unit, they are allowed to carry 1 marine!

1 marine can take 1 city. Early in the game, lots of cities are undefended. When two Dutch infantry units showed up next to Davao, wow! what a gift! I knew someplace was open! Actually, there was not even a destroyer in Davao, that was a transport.

Anyways...getting back to destroyers...I hopped the marines onto ships and then transferred them onto other ships that still had movement left, thus giving my marines much more movement than normal. Some marines that participated in the invasion of the Northern Phllipines took Sibu!

Another important early technique is conscription! A size 7 city does not grow nearly as quickly as a size 6 city. But a conscript quells unhappy residents just as well as an elite unit does.

Finally: I made sure that bombers bombed first, that way I did not lose thier extra firepower if they were to get extra hits on ships.

Anyways, that is what has happened so far. I am now probably out of my element as I have the rather daunting task of attacking China (after it has had two turns to draft :p ) and without the connection at Foochow, I do not have roads connecting North to South.

Razed Footown!  . That is a :nono: , they should have at
least read the game guidelines  . Revenge will be sweet ;) .

At least it is one less salient to defend. Always look on the bright side of life, plus Foochow is one of 2 cities of theirs that starts with a factory. I am certain that the flow of materials is still getting to Japan, and rcoutme will go after them for their impudence. I like the way this is shaping up.

This happened in another game I played where the CW player got a little
carried away and razed Kuwala Lumpur. As compensation the Japanese
played was given the right to raze any one city. It could
be useful when the US starts pushing back accross the Pacific, it will deny
them victory points and an airbase.

What has the Apolyton team said of the 'razing'. Can we get 1 to raise if
we want to later?

Any news on their move? Next turn should be interesting. Maybe they did
not have a draft in china :mischief: , smack them hard and soak up some
more VPs elsewhere!!! :goodjob: They seem very inexperienced ;) .

For those of you who had given up on this game or wondered if the Apolyton guys had given up, well... sort of. But Paddy the Scot assures me that he is not the only one over at Apolyton whose gonads are more than just ornaments, so he is going to assemble a team to finish the scenario, come hell or high water (both of which are quite likely in this particular scenario).

Anyways, I can only hope that the Apolyton guys used the same password or that LouLong/ChrisiusMaximus have and exec password as it looks like somebody over at Apolyton (or someones) has lost interest.

After those two turns of :spank: , did the original players just drop  ??? I was really interested in this game :( , maybe
they can regroup! Although that was a devastating attack,
I think it would be 'possible' for a comeback.

The original players are regrouping to try to stomp me now.

This month’s carnage consists of the following:

Commonwealth: DD Stronghold near Davao bombed (lost 2 hp), DD Electra bombed near Manokwari (lost 2 hp), SS Storm sunk near Sibu.

Americans: DD Edsall bombed near Tenate (lost 2 hp), DD Laffey sunk somewhere in the Pacific, one bomber squadron will be forever remembered by their comrades and widows.

Chinese: Rails near Kunming attacked. Hankow attacked, one inf killed. 2 Guerillas killed in a bunker near Kunming. Lots of bombardment.

The Dutch received most of our attention this month: Donggalla was empty, so we took that; Sangkoelirang was also empty so we took that also. Inf outside of Menado was bombed (lost 2 hp), DD Van Ghent was sunk near Davao. SS Coffeehouse was sunk near Sibu. CA De Reyeuter, DD unnamed, and DD Kortenaer were all sunk near Singapore.

Japanese High Command Notes: I have noticed that Tenate and Ketapang have flak on them and may be very lightly defended. I may decide to attack them really soon (as I have marines within range). I have 2 marines who can reach Rabaul next turn, so I may hit the Commonwealth hard there, thus sharing the pain that the Dutch have been feeling. The Commonwealth has sent a force south from Mandalay, however I sent some Nipponese infantry around them exposing Mandalay as having only a flak defender. This may or may not delay the Commonwealth attack. In either case, Rangoon is heavily guarded and not really threatened.

My Chinese campaign has bogged down. My tank army took 9 hp of losses killing the defenders of a bunker near Kunming. My infantry army lost 4 hp killing one infantry in Hankow and the light tank was redlined doing no damage at all. I will probably have to ask Dogboy and EricA how to proceed.

I have marines close enough to Fiji to attack it (it would take 2 turns to get to Samoa). I have a lot of marines in Kwajalein as well. I am not certain whether or not I want to make a fake ploy for Midway and actually attack the Hawaiian Islands! If I could take either Honolulu or Hilo, that would be a major victory!

Finally: my Pearl Harbor fleet is one turn from bombing the American mainland. This could get really interesting really soon…

As for my islands: until the bad guys (allies) have marines, I have made Wake, Kwajalein, Truk, Saipan, Palau, and Tarawa invasion-proof (since there are no blank tiles). Even with marines, they will still have to build them.

I have given up trying to build some of the factories I had originally planned (just too many). I will try to rush what I can next turn and then the turn afterwards I will switch to wartime production for the remainder of the game.

VP before turn began were: Japanese had 13150, Allies 1330; breakdown was 750 for location, 3400 for kills, 9000 for conquests.

Well...according to the British, Rangoon fell and only one point of damage occurred to one inf. How that could happen when they killed 4 conscripts and 1 elite I do not know, but Rangoon will have to be retaken.

One way they could have done that is by bombarding all the units
in Rangoon down to 1HP. They could have rebased all their bombers
to Burma. You can launch some airstrikes on Mandalay and that other
city and try to destroy them on the ground. When you counterattack send
some flak guns along with your troops.
PS: Interceptors, will help too.

If they did this, they must be short on bombers to defend Rabaul and Port
Moresby.

You may have to hold off 1 turn to heal the tank army, then recapture
Rangoon. I would also try to keep the US as far away as possible and
you may need to capture Midway or the Hawaiian Islands for your ships
to be able to heal in the area. I haven't looked back but I thought you
mentioned Pearls Harbor being destroyed?!? Where are the others nearby?
ANY island is a good island to capture as far as I am concerned! Good Luck.
You are doing great!!!

Turn 4
March, 1942 Score before turn Japan 15160; Allies 2605
The carnage was as follows: after seeing the Commonwealth capture Rangoon from me, I decided that they were really evil bastards and needed a good spanking. :spank: I attacked Rangoon (and took it back) with no damage :band: , Rabaul (suffering 2hp damage to a marine), and Fiji (suffering no damage).

The Dutch had wisely chosen to defend Ketapang, however, I decided to check out Palembang and to my delight found only a flak unit defending it. My marines made short order of it and captured another intact airport! I lost 4 hp of marines to that one unit, but captured the city… [party] That city (I happen to know this from playing the Dutch in the TOS scenario which is based on this scenario) happened to be the Dutch Forbidden Palace city and was loaded with goodies! In other news on the Dutch front, Boela was captured with the assaulting marines losing 2 hp, and that pesky infantry just north of Singapore was incinerated by combat engineers with 1 hp loss to the engineers.

In sea action: A sub was sunk near Ketapang, another near the West Coast of the US, I guess that is why my raiding fleet got spotted, so that raid got called off… A destroyer was sunk near Donggala. A lone Commonwealth transport was sunk near Palembang, although we hope it was loaded with lots of expensive troops, we doubt it… Lots of bombing was done.

In a tit for tat, I abandoned Sarmi as a one-time recompense for the abandonment for Foochow. My fleet will now attack Midway instead of the NW US since they spotted me. It will be kind of a let down, but still a worthwhile target. Meanwhile, I am contemplating what to do about a much better than average Commonwealth player. He showed up next to Sarmi with a big attack force.

Any news from the enemy? :scan: Good work with Palembang :goodjob: .
What size force showed up? Just curious.

Showed up where? At Sarmi? Lots and lots of troopies. Actually, the British guy complained that next time he would prefer it if I chose a city he did not go to all the trouble of getting so many troops too...
