ChienFou Prince Series 3

The prelude to this series was this paragraph:

There are lots of us out here. We can manage noble, We get ok starts on prince (thanks Sisiutil) and somewhere along the line the sky falls on our heads. I'm starting this series since I've made no fewer than 7 starts with these parameters and every time something went 'orribly wrong. The idea of the series is to play an opening up to a specified point and micro-manage what we're doing, so each gameplay will be relatively short; maybe 10 turns or so. In this first series we're going to build a samurai and a cat, or there-abouts. After that anyone interested can have a go with the game from that point and compare notes, but the early game is what this series is about. We might try two or three games with these parameters.

I played 2 games and learnt a lot from your feedback. Now the next phase.

I haven't got BtS yet, so I'm playing Warlords 2.08; fractal, std settings, Prince, epic, random and got the Eqyptians, Rameses II. I played through to 295BC and think I have a good start. For that, thanks to everyone who helped with the first two games. Here's the start jpg and the start Gamefile

Here's a summary of what happened.

No reason not to settle in place, but I moved the Warrior on top of the 1E hill first. The UU is a chariot, so I planned on a chariot rush and I reckoned on AH first to find the horseys. They turned up conveniently nearby on a coastal site, so I got out a settler as soon as I could, settled him, researched mysticism and built an obelisk (the UB). I researched fishing and built a workboat while waiting for the border pop and then I improved the horseys, built granaries and barracks and built/whipped/chopped about 10 chariots. I also built a copper city while this was happening for barb defence and because I'd need some axes too. I had to remine my copper once but the first axe provided protection thereafter. I built Stonehenge so I'd get the 3rd and following cities on-stream faster. It was clear the Korean (who was leading) had got hinduism, so I took him out (4 cities, the last of which I razed - it was on the stone tile to my South East.) with the chariots and a few axes. His capital was 40%, 5 defence II Archers and it cost me four or five axes, but I kept building them and a few of the chariots also died. In the process I got a GG which I used to promote a chariot to medic III, and a GP which I used to build the shrine in the captured Korean Holy City since I needed the income. The other cities fell easily enough under the weight of chariots for small losses and useful 2nd promotions. Probably 15 game turns from the intial DoW in about 840BC to wiping them out.

I played on about another 4 or 5 turns while everyone healed. The chariots are going fogbusting now, and I'm planning one more city in the NW for iron. 7 workers (I got 4 from the Korean) seems ok - 1 on each city more or less. During the mayhem I had a quick war with Montezuma, sort of by mistake, when I nicked a worker and walked across his land with a scouting warrior since he'd choked off my route home. Waste of time, they got marmelised, and I got peace soon enough once I'd killed his local scouts. He's far West in the general picture below, and not really relevant at the moment.

I'm now in a position where the research slider is at 50%, where my economy's pretty much shot and where two of my cities hate me but I reckon I played the opening a lot better than in the first two CFP series games. At least I had a plan and followed it. I know I need Monasteries and Temples, but can build neither - I was teching towards CoL via math and am half way to Currency when I stopped but it'll take an age.

What the heck do I do now? Should I go Hindu?. Should I research the early religious techs med and pri for Monasteries and Temples first? Should I take out another civ? I just know if I play on, I'll get out-teched so need some help please.

Here's the current Gamefile and here are some screenshots, with a few comments.

The continent as far as it got with my scouting warriors. I have more cities and land than anyone else. Pop 18.18, Mehmet 17; Land 15.38, Huayna 8.00

A more detailed look at my territory from North to South, you can see the mega-medic in the third shot, chariots off to fogbust etc. Mehmet's to the East but he has spears.

Foreign relations - another disaster on the horizon

The military advisor tells me I have 7 workers, 8 chariots, 2 warriors and 7 axemen - I'll skip the shot; I've left an axe in each peripheral city. the info screen does give me a certain sadistic pleasure however. The korean (wonton is a pet name for him - I made him into soup) taking a rapid nosedive.
