CG2: Conquest, No Transports, No Airlifting

Since we have an open slot free (with cg permenantly out) there's no reason for you not to be put on the roster, swiftsure. And since the open slot was listed just after sealman's, that means you're up. Grab the save and post a got it to let us know you're on board.

Well, I can play SGs again, but I don't feel like kicking anyone out, so I guess I'll just 'coach' from here. ;) I'll start a CG3. Anyway, good luck to the new guys (the ones who replaced me ;)).

mm shanghai so palace is in 7 turns but theology is in 6 but ther is no starvation.

egypt looks like it is our nearest competitor and we havent got embassy... so i establish one for 82gp

The growing of the Chinese Republic - the start of its Golden Age

(0) 500 AD
Look at the unit stats, we have 13 Horseman built, 3 turns to Chivalry...
The Zulu start Sun Tzu's a bit too late.

(1) 510 AD
Trade with Egypt: We give Theology for Engineering+4gpt+6g
Trade with England (Great Library): We give Engineering for Chivalry+WM+6gpt+50g
Start researching Education at 4.5.1 for 11 turns/+31gpt.
France and Russia sign Peace Treaty.
Beijing completes Sun Tzu's Art of War! Egyptians switch to Sistine and complete it in Alexandria.

(2) 520 AD
Shanghai bails out of uncompletable Sistine to a Cathedral. Start upgrading Horseman to Riders. 5 upgraded this turn at 80 gold each. Swordsman advance on Lyons, France. France ask for an Alliance against the Babylonians. We decline. Babylon declar war on Egypt.

(3) 530 AD
We sign a military alliance with the Babylonians against the French earning us 12 gold from them. Our riders and swordsmen advance into French territory. A rider wins a combat for us to enter our Golden Age! Lyons has more pikemen defenders than expected so the attackers wait for reinforcements.

(4) 540 AD
Taxes set to 5.4.1 for 6 turns/+119gpt. Our western riders attack the almost isolated town of Grenoble to the west. Attack Lyons with riders and swordsmen with them losing 5 defenders to our loss of 1 swordsman. Lyons is captured. We then lose two defenders in Lyons leaving just a single 1 hp horseman to hold it. France and Babylon sign a peace treaty.

(5) 550 AD
Capture Grenoble with our western riders.

(6) 560 AD
Forces consolidate in Grenoble and Lyons. Egyptians start Leonardo's Workshop, indicating they have Invention.

(7) 570 AD
Western Riders advance on Besancon of France. Both are victorious and the second produces a Great Leader! I'm inclined to use him for a Forbidden Palace in Paris when we capture it. Besancon doesn't fall as it has an archer remaining to defend it. Eastern Riders advance on Chartres but fail to capture it. No losses though.

(8) 580 AD
Forces continue assault against Chartres. Chartres is captured with only one swordsman lost. Eastern Riders now advance on to Paris, which is surrounded by Egyptian troops, or heal up. All Horsemen finally upgraded to Riders. Taxes changed to 2.7.1 for immediate tech. We discover Education and switch to Astronomy.

(9) 590 AD
Egypt and us are comfortably ahead of everyone else in tech, except for England who is hanging on with the Great Library. We can't trade for Invention from Egypt. Taxes to 3.6.1 for 7 turns/+50gpt. Riders prepare for assault on Paris. Egypt offers an alliance against the Babylonians. I decline.

(10) 600 AD
An inconveniently placed Russian spearman halts plans for an attack on Besancon in the west. In the east, all Riders are in position for an assault on Paris next turn.

The save for the next player...

@ Theos: :goodjob:

Good to see that leader, I agree, we must save him for the FP. After the war is over, priority should be the FP in Paris and sending some workers up there to fix up the land. Just a question: did you destroy all our barracks the turn before we got Sun Tzu's? I'm not sure how it works, but if you didn't, we may either have double barracks in some cities or still paying for barracks in some cities. I'm not sure which way it would go.

Good job everyone. I think our long-term strategy has to be to conquer our mainland before the coming of helicopters, a good while before. It will take a while to get enough helis for an invasion of another island, even if they have been modded to carry two units each. We would probably need around 20-25 helicopters for an invasion, so it will take a while to build up that, and the actual invasion force. That would require us to waste no time, so we would probably have to conquer our mainland by the start of the Industrial age.

CG, If u go thru all our cities where we had barracks and click on sell then we get a whopping huge 2gp per barracks and because we got sun tzu the barracks are still there. you cant sell sun tzu created barracks.

Should have held off on the trade with egypt until the turn after sun tzu was built. as egypt didnt have a wonder to switch to they would have lost their production in Alex. Oh well lets sharpen our swords and go and get sistines the good old fashioned way

Thats what I meant, sorry if I worded it wrong. My question is: does Sun Tzu's barracks eliminate regular Barracks? I would think so, but if there were somehow doubles, it should be priority to sell them.

CG

What it does is leaves the old constructed barracks and just puts barracks in cities that havent got them, so we will still be paying maintenance on the constructed barracks. you are right we need to go thru all our cities selling the constructed barracks so that a maintenance free sun tzu barracks appears.

I don't know. There has been alot of roster changes since I left for a while. Just take it, unless someone else posts. Can the person who was running this while I was gone (theos, I guess that was you) post the current list, so there can be less confusion?

I am pretty sure that Sun Tzu's removes the maintenance for any Barracks that you have built. Have a look in the city screen and see if the Barracks still have the red maintenance coins. I just conquered the city it was in in my current game and my income jumped by 11gpt, which is how many Barracks I had. No trades were current so this is were the money comes from.
I think it works the same way for any Wonder that gives each city and improvement. I never sell the improvements just in case I lose the Wonder. Nothing worse than the city with the Wonder in it getting razed and having to rebuild everything.

The old barracks are still in the cities that you have, but you don't have to pay their maintenance. If you sell them (you have to remember which ones had them in the first place), you'll get the money and a Sun Tzu barracks will instantly take its place. You will not be able to see the difference in the city screen because both have no maintenance, but you CAN still sell them
