CG7 - Diety Attempt!

Cgannon, you should know who's up.... :nono: ;)
It is confusing at the moment. I believe that I was up after Borealis (just look at your comments a page back). Jack took it however and since he had to skip a turn last week, I didn't react.

I got it.

Shall we stick to the last roster you posted here?

Jack
Cgannon64
Aggie
Shillen
Borealis

I took it since CG said I was up, sorry :) I agree to stick to the roster now.

Shillen, you're right about the markets being more important. We should probably have built temples before barracks if we intended to build temples. As it was, I figured building horses from our barracks towns was a better use of resources. Also, we are the militaristics Chinese so we want to go to war sooner rather than later.
I did let the temple in Nanking finish as it will bring silks online, and we can use those.

Pre-turn: Great tips people, but after getting Republic I probably first will go into anarchy.

Turn 1 (550 BC) A few horses are built.

Turn 2 (530 BC) The Republic is ours. We get 5 turns of anarchy.

The Russians give us Map Making and Literature for the Republic. We are in the middle ages! Every opponent has monotheism, feudalism and monarchy at least.

Turn 3, 4, 5, 6 (510 - 450 BC) anarchy (The Zulu and Celts signed peace)

Turn 7 (430 BC) We are a Republic. We make 27 gpt. We can trade, but I wait until the horses are hooked up with a colony.

IT: Arabia demands tribute, which I pay.

Turn 8 (410 BC) :sleep:

IT: Now the Celts demand tribute, I pay again (thinking about anarres ;) )

Turn 9 (390 AD) We now make 46 gpt, so I'm going to buy Feudalism. Arabia want 23 gpt and 113 gold, which I give.

Turn 10 (370 AD) :sleep:

I think that all comments from Shillen and Jack Merchant are still valid. Nothing much to add to that, I believe.

Pre-turn:
You still had cities set up for anarchy even though we’ve been a republic for 3 turns. We have scientists and tax-collectors in cities without happiness problems.

I think getting marketplaces up is going to help us more than horsemen are at this point. If we have to wait until chivalry to start war then so be it. Marketplaces are our key to survival. Beating techs out of the AI is not that easy, you have to take core cities if you want to get good deals. So we’re still going to have to rely mostly on buying techs. Most cities switched to marketplaces.

Time to connect that iron too, we need pikemen.

I never know what to do with the regular warriors when MP aren’t needed anymore. If I disband them we could get an additional 7gpt. But disbanding units on deity is rough because you never have enough of them. But is upgrading a regular warrior worth it?

You don’t need to build a road on the horse to build a colony. Just build a road next to the horse then the colony automatically connects it. I don’t think we should waste the worker until we have a harbor built though. Thankfully harbors are cheap for militaristic civ’s. Chengdu switched to harbor in 8 turns.

350 BC (1): …

IT: Zulus demand TM and 21 gold. I give it to him. The Arabs are building Sistine Chapel. Of course the AI’s are advancing down the tree we don’t have access to. We’re going to have to buy engineering when it becomes available.

330 BC (2): I’m still selling our WM around each turn because I don’t think it’s that tedious and it’s still helpful. I raise lux to 20% and we lose 2gpt.

IT: The Zulu are building Sistine Chapel.

310 BC (3): Beijing horseman->horseman. Jack’s Gambit connected but it’s only producing 1 shield still. I notice Shanghai is 50% corrupt even. I change my mind, we should build FP in Shanghai, JG would take far too long. Shanghai switched to a temple. Worker finishes his chop at Beijing and reveals regular grassland.

290 BC (4): Blah I notice Russia is the only civ without horses and they lack a harbor, Arabia just took another of their cities and they’re down to 5 now. If we could get a road hooked up to them before they get killed off we could probably get Monotheism cheap. Would have to road 6 tiles. I establish an embassy in Russia for 57 gold. They have no strategic resources. 4 spearmen and 1 catapult in Moscow, building settler, working almost all unimproved tiles. I guess the other civ’s have been pillaging them like crazy. I don’t think they’ll hold out long enough to build a road to them. Russia is currently at war with Babylon, Zululand, and Arabia. I also build embassy in Arabia for 65 gold. They have iron, horses, and 5 luxuries. Mecca is guarded by 3 spearmen and a catapult. They have 41 turns to complete Sun Tzu’s Art of War. They’re not doing very well on tile improvements themselves.

IT: Babylonians are building the Hanging Gardens.

270 BC (5): Beijing horseman->horseman.

IT: Korean pikeman shows his face at Hyangsan. Happiest nations of the world, Arabia is first, we’re 5th.

250 BC (6): Arabia, Zulus, and Korea learned Engineering. Figures Korea will give us the best deal for Engineering but we don’t want to buy from them. I can’t afford it from anyone else. I’ll wait until our harbor is done and see if I can get a better deal.

230 BC (7): Iron connected. Colony built on horses. Shanghai switched to courthouse instead of temple. It already has more than 12 tiles to work. Celts have Engineering too now, only Russia doesn’t.

IT: Korea and Arabia have signed a military alliance against Russia.

210 BC (8): Chengdu harbor->marketplace. Beijing horseman->horseman. Well that harbor didn’t help us much. Celts and Russia need a harbor still. Everyone else has horses/wines except Korea doesn’t have wines. We can now get engineering for 10gpt cheaper because the Celts have it now. Korea will give us another 10gpt discount because of wines. I have to take it, we’ll just have to delay our war for 20 more turns. Wines, 17gpt, and 185 gold to Korea for Engineering. Engineering, 5gpt, and 5g to Russia for Monotheism. Everyone except Russia has theology + chivalry.

190 BC (9): Xinjian marketplace->aqueduct. We gain 4gpt. Russia has chivalry now.

IT: Koreans are building the Hanging Gardens.

170 BC (10): Beijing horseman->pikeman. Anyang switched from marketplace to granary without wasting shields. It was growing far too slowly.

We have 10 horsemen now. We can’t go to war with Korea for 18 more turns. We should have chivalry by then but upgrading to knights costs 80 gold each, and I’m not sure where we’ll get that kind of money. We also have a few more embassies to establish. An option would be to join in an alliance against Russia. Most of the civ’s we have embassies with will give us a tiny bit of gold to do so. We could possibly capture their incense city and another iron source to trade.

Are you sure about me being up CG ? I'd say Borealis is up if we're still following the original roster and if she can take it.

Oops! :ack: I looked at Shileen and thought Borealis...:crazyeye:

Borealis is up. ;)

At least the turns are pretty quick in this game still. It took me about an hour to go my 10. In BoG1 my last turn took 5 hours and it's only a standard map. I'm gettin pretty tired of domination/conquest games. I can't even remember my last peaceful game, it was probably tournament game 4-2 which was a couple months ago. Anyway this one will still be fun cause I love playin with you guys whatever the victory condition.

Anyway sorry I went my turn so fast. You guys should get 3 days to do it since I almost always do it within 24 hours of the last person posting. :p But it really shouldn't take you long, unless you go to war with Russia. Which I think is really a good idea. :hinthint:

No worries, Shillen ! I for one am rather happy at your pace :) My last turn was only delayed because of 2 other monster turn in LK43 and Hot3 - both great fun but inordinately time-consuming.

I fully support going to war - I, too, am becoming a great fan of going to war early and often on deity. Lay down the :hammer: on the AI's.

--------

With Hot3 and LK43 (as good as) over, I'm thinking of starting a new SG. How about a small map ? :)

I can't believe I did it again! I played it with v1.21. :sigh: I guess I'll try playing it again and hope things come out the same. I'm soo sorry. Hopefully since there's no barbs I can get the same result.

Ok I was wondering. I had thought it was you guys that didn't have it as well. I know Borealis does because SP6 is 1.21 and she's in that.

Wait Shillen! Jack Merchant and I have 1.21 as well. Since about a week we play PBEM on 1.21. I believe WE are the reason why this game is at 1.14 anyway!

They released a foreign language 1.21 patch? If so, we should upgrade ASAP - that was the only reason we were at 1.14, you Europeans. :p

@ Shillen: Don't replay your turns until we get this settled. You may be ahead of the curve! ;)

170 BC (0): City check- We are hurting on infrastructure. Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hangchow are all growing too quickly in comparison to their infrastructure, and are MMed for shields. Anyang swapped to temple, as it needs happiness more- it'll grow fast enough without the granary.

We desperately need more high-production tiles for our cities, and now that we're in Republic mined hills need to be put into play- I won't get a chance to do much of this in 10 turns, but future leaders need to focus on shields rather than food whenever possible.

Diplo check shows that we're (visibly) behind on Theology, Chivalry, and Monarchy.

150 BC (1): Canton market->temple. Tientsin market->temple. Anyang temple->market. Babylon starts Sistine. The Zulus build the Hanging Gardens, and the Arabs and Celts cascade to Sistine & Sun Tzu's.

130 BC (2): Beijing pike->pike.

110 BC (3): Nanking market->courthouse.

90 BC (4): Beijing pike->pike.

(IT): Korea builds Sun Tzu's. The Arabs & Celts cascade to Sistine.

70 BC (5): The Zulus start Sistine

50 BC (6): Jack's Gambit gets a tax collector for a while, until it builds its temple. Beijing pike->pike.

30 BC (7) (IT): Arabia and Russia sign a peace treaty.

10 BC (8): Beijing pike->pike.

(IT): Babylon and Russia sign a peace treaty. Babylon wants to trade TMs if I toss in 40g, which I gracefully refuse- we don't need his maps right now.

10 AD (9): Xinjian aqueduct->courthouse. Chengdu market->courthouse. Tientsin market->courthouse. Macao temple->courthouse. Shanghai gets a clown- it will need a cathedral soon. Babylon and Arabia start Leonardo's Workshop.

30 AD (10): Canton temple->aqueduct. Beijing pike->pike.

We have 448g in the treasury, and are making 68gpt. I recommend we decide on a target for horse upgrades to Riders, and try to keep enough in the treasury to upgrade all at once so we can hit hard fast- Korea has Sun Tzu's, so we'll have to deal with vet pikes. Russia is down to its capital, Novgorod, and still at war with both the Koreans and the Zulu- do NOT make any long-term deal with her, as she's probably toast soon. If we get Theology, we might be able to trade it to her, as she lacks it, but make sure you get cash/tech up front for it. We cannot afford a ruined rep.

Some cities that would need instant entertainers have had their growth slowed or stopped, as we can't afford to raise our lux rate with our impending need for cash. Beijing is slowly starting the process of bolstering our puny garrison in our cities- I've started with the cities with warriors and pikemen should probably be sent to the border with Korea next to replace spearmen. The warriors themselves are disbanded into shields if they're regular, but kept if they're vets.

Edit: This was played on 1.21, since apparently the entire team has it now.

:confused: A non-Firaxis patch? Weird. Anyway, Jack is up. :) Then I'm up, finally. Some weird turn of events made me not play for a looooooooong time. ;)
