CG7 - Diety Attempt!

800 AD (6): We capture Mansura back along with Bach’s and saltpeter. We capture Inch’on. We capture Hyangsang and get a Great Leader! I turn lux up to 60% and tell the governor to manage moods. Maybe he’ll prevent those unexpected riots. I switch all rider cities back to cavalry.

IT: Yay the Zulu forces move towards Babylon instead of us. Damn the Zulus disband all our workers since they’re no longer in their territory.

810 AD (7): All riots end! Zulus still not talking.

820 AD (8): We capture Fustat along with incense. Back to 6 luxuries.

IT: Zulus move a SoD next to Pyongsong.

830 AD (9): Not much.

IT: 2 Zulu longbows kill 2 of our pikemen in Pyongsong. We have no luck. A third remains.

840 AD (10): I managed to muster together 11 cavalry to attack Seoul with. The 11th cavalry takes the city after defeating 5 musketmen. We didn’t lose a single cavalry, they all retreated. We now control Sun Tzu’s Art of War.

The Zulus still aren't talking. We might be able to capture Anjar before making peace. Definitely make peace though. Even if it ruins our rep cause of the MA's we really need to get rid of this war weariness. We can afford to buy techs for straight up cash anyway, well when we can lower our lux slider again at least.

Here's the Game.

edit: Oh I put the leader in Beijing. We still have a Palace prebuild going in Shanghai too. Use the Palace prebuild for Universal Suffrage and the leader for ToE? We'll have to start a prebuild for Hoover too eventually. Our military is too small for an army. It would be wasting units to fill it up.

:worshp: I've seen a master at work :worshp:

We have Sun Tzu :hammer: I didn't see the save of turn 6, but looking at this one I would almost think that nothing happened, expect us taking Sun Tzu :D

Now we should make peace ASAP and then research towards TeO ourselves.

EDIT: Let's have peace for a long time now!!! Until tanks.

Well they still hurt us pretty badly. We lost a good 2/3 of our worker force. The riots cost us dearly in cash and I had to rush a lot of units too. Beijing rioters also destroyed the courthouse there. Our rep will be ruined when we make peace. The cities they took from us will have to rebuild their temples/libraries if they had them. A good 1/2 of our cities are now undefended and it will take some time to rebuild our military. But we're alive.

And I regret to inform you that Aggie died valiantly trying to take the city of Mansura back from the evil Zulu. :( :cry:

Hopefully the Gods will return him to us to rule again someday.

Couple things the next leader should know. The remaining workers we still have are fortified in our cities throughout our empire. Don't forget to wake them up. Also I think we're still building barracks in some cities even though we captured Sun Tzu, so you'll want to change those. The Zulu mini-SoD is still outside Pyongsong. It's just 2 longbows and a musketman. And both longbows are injured now.

And to answer you Aggie. The reason things are so different before and after turn 6 is because before turn 6 the Zulus were attacking us, and after turn 6 they were attacking Babylon. If they had continued sending their units at us instead of Babylon things would have turned out much differently to say the least. So we owe Babylon our asses. We'll have to pay them back by bringing some Chinese culture into their cities at some point. ;)

That's a great comeback there Shillen ! I'll try to hammer some sense into those Zulu zealots.

Got it.

I re-read Shillens report. I agree with the pre-build for Universal Suffrage and using the leader for TeO.

EDIT: Shillen, stealing is a very good way to get a tech. Sometimes you fail, but often you succeed. You were just unlucky.

We had Magnetism very cheap. The Zulu broke the deal and lost their luxuries that way. I'm quite certain that the Zulu have a big reputation problem now.

The Zulu must have had a leader, because the place were they built Newton was corrupt (Umfolozi). Newton is virtually without value in a corrupt city :crazyeye:

Very clever move to use the governor the manage our moods. :)

Inherited turn: As instructed, wake up all workers and set them to work. Change build order to muskets in most empty cities. I don't like the placement of Ningpo and Paoting at all; I would have preferred Ningpo one tile west and Paoting scrapped.

850 AD (1) 3 Cavs retreat trying to take Anjar, a fourth one kills a musket but we can't take the city. I kill 2 muskets and 2 longbows in the open. The Zulu will now talk and give us Monarchy for peace - that may come in handy later on (we're lucky our government survived - we would have been thrown back into despotism if not "shudder" !). The Babs and the Celts are now furious with us, of course. I sell the Celts dyes for 8 gpt lest they attack us now - the Babs don't want our luxes anymore.
I fire all the governors but leave research off to spare some money for rushing muskets, 2 this turn. We make 619 gpt now but that will improve.

860 AD (2) 4 more muskets hurried. I am preparing to go to war with Babylon, as they're still a republic and occupied with the Zulu now.

870 AD (3) Hurry some more muskets and start on mostly infrastructure

880 AD (4) Declare war on Babylon and capture Nampo'o, 4 resisters.

890 AD (5) We kill 3 Bab cavs and a musket at the cost of one of ours and capture Isipezi.

IT Only 2 Bab cavs show up in counterattack.

900 AD (6) More infra rushings

910 AD (7) We advance on Zariqum. The Babs are now a monarchy too.

IT Bab counter of 1 cav kills a cav in Nampo'o.

920 AD (8) Zulu now have nationalism too. We capture Zariqum and Kish.

IT Babylon and Zululand sign peace. The people expand the palace.

930 AD (9) We capture Izibia and nab 3 Bab workers. I sign peace for wm+7 gold because the Babs can focus on us now aand we're to weak to really hurt them now. I could have gotten nationalism in the peace treaty for 1000 gold and something like 140 gpt, but we don't really need it if we go for peaceful buildup now. I abandon Zariqum because it's bound to flip and I already rushed a settler from Nampoo to replace it.
Rush more infrastructure, particularly libraries.

940 AD (10) Not much this turn, except I rushed a courthouse in Beijing. I left a settler active because the game keeps crashing on me when I try to found where it stands.

The tech pace is still glacial, which is good. If we can gather our forces again, we may want to try and ambush the Celtic forces on the Babylonian border and grab that fur city. We definitely need more workers to do some massive mining in our Arabian core, as it is not very productive yet.

Am I up? The last posted roster (page 8 of the thread I think) has me listed. I won't look at it until tomorrow afternoon, so if I'm not up, ignore this. If I am, then this is a 'got it.'

The last posted roster was an attempt to rearrange things until cgannon got back, but clearly our pace was a bit faster than anticipated. However, since no-one objected, we should stick to it and yes, I believe you are up then.

I feel totally out of the loop! :crazyeye: Well, I am back, but in little shape to play right now. Can someone post a pic of our empire (with dotmap!) and a litlte info on how far we've gotten? :)

940 AD (0): The foreign advisor tells me that we have 11 turns left on our gpt-for-dyes trade with the Celts, so any shots at them will have to wait. Babylon has Nationalism, but is still in Monarchy, so we have a good shot at Universal Suffrage. I'm going to focus on moving our troops to that border, try a safe steal for Nationalism or SP, and if it fails take the fur city to keep Babylon in Monarchy. The military advisor says that we are stronger currently, meaning that Hammurabi hasn't had the chance to upgrade enough rifles yet.

Domestically, we are indeed hurting for workers to mine the :smoke: AI irrigation in former Arabia, and need good defenders in each of our cities. I found Yangchow and send a vet cavalry to guard it until we get a decent defender there, as it doesn't crash my game. Seoul's granary is rushed, as it will make a decent worker pump with a courthouse, and we need more workers desperately, especially with SP coming up. Other builds are swapped around- mostly banks to courthouses in cities that need to cut down on corruption before the bank can pull a significant profit. Courthouses, markets, and banks are all prioritized over libraries in cities holding their own culturally.

950 AD (1): Beijing Courthouse->Musket. Seoul Granary->Worker. Ulsan Market->Bank. Tientsin Harbor->Library. Jack's Gambit Bank->University. Catapults (7) upgraded to Cannons. Temple rushed in Izibia to combat flip risk.

960 AD (2): Izibia temple->library. Inch'on granary->worker.

(IT): Zulu and Celtic forces fight in our borders- if we need a pretext to get them to declare war and they have troops around when our deals run out, we'll probably get it.

970 AD (3): Nanking University->Cannon.

980 AD (4): Basra MMed to get a worker every 4 turns to coincide with growth.

As we have 2474 gold, I attempted a safe steal of Nationalism... our agent didn't make it, but avoided attracting attention.

990 AD (5): Aden Granary->Harbor.

(IT): A horde of Zulu Cavalry pour into the Celtic lands.

1000 AD (6): Anyang Harbor->Bank.

1010 AD (7): :sleep:

1020 AD (8): Medina Courthouse->Bank. Kish Library->Walls. Izibia Musket->Walls.

1030 AD (9): Mecca Bank->University. Najran Courthouse->Bank.

1040 AD (10): Pusan Bank->Harbor. We have enough money for a safe steal, and make the attempt... succeeding this time. I steal Steam Power, which Babylon had just discovered. We should try to steal Nationalism next, as it's difficult to trade for, but I wanted to make sure that we a) had coal and b) could start our rail network now. Also, although we can't get much for the tech from Zululand and the Celts as they're putting their money into war production, if we decide not to go to war with them in the next 20 turns we can get the full set of luxuries, plus some cash from Brennus for SP. I didn't make the deals, as I think the rest of the team needs to confirm the 'no war with these two civs right now' intent, but if we decide that by all means go ahead.

Oh, and shall we restart our research now? Nationalism is available in five turns, Industrialization in eight, Medicine in seven, and Electricity in nine. I've put the slider onto Nationalism, but that decision can be vetoed if necessary as no gold has been entered into research yet. We have 1386 gold in the bank currently, enough to emergency rush if need be.

I agree with the no war intend AND with researching ourselves. We must take the opportunity to get TeO by ourselves. :)

EDIT: looking at the minimap I wonder: Is domination the obvious way to go? Celtia and Babylon seem to be enough. This contradicts my earlier remark. Let's discuss it.

Totally agree on stealing SP over nationalism - excellent call :goodjob:

I don't know if the AIs will remain honorable with the lux+cash for SP deal (I think the AIs tend to break deals with you sooner if you've also broken deal) but as they'll get it eventually, we might as well make it and build up peacefully for now. Just keep our border cities reinforced :)

Also, I didn't really leave us in a shape to go to war again, and war right now might be costly until our cav armies are bigger.

Well, I see a couple of things:

- Babylon has riflemen. With cavalry they are difficult to conquer.
- We can build iron works in Wonsan. That city is 50% corrupt.
- I'd like to see us research industrialization first (to make good use of our palace pre-build - US - and for the factory) and then towards TeO.
- Do we keep our leader until TeO?

- We don't have to go after Babylon, we could take on the Celts instead if they lack nationalism still.
- Yes, let's keep the leader until ToE.
- Wonsan will be less corrupt after police stations, so yes, let's build an IW there. It won't be a gamebreaker, but I never pass up on the chance to
- Industry sounds like the best option to me, too. We can in fact ignore nationalism altogether if we go get replaceable parts first
