CG7 - Diety Attempt!

Yes, definitely skp nationalism. I skip it in most of my games. Replaceable parts is only 2 techs away and infantry are by far better than riflemen. Not to mention double worker speed and artillery. But yes industrialization should come first so we can get our factories built as soon as possible.

Cavalry don't do that badly against riflemen either. I usually just send masses of cavalry at flatland cities, while I send my infantry and artillery stack at the hill cities.

I don't like domination victories myself. It's like a half-effort conquest in my opinion. It's much more satisfying to finish everyone off. You can win by domination and still have a very strong neighbor. IE we could take out the Celts and leave Zulu alone. Even though they were still very strong and competetive we won anyway. Seems kind of dumb to me. But that's just my opinion.

IHT: The courthouse in Wonsan, our Iron Works city, is rushed for 196 gold. The Celts have Nationalism, so I don't feel like attacking their riflemen. Science swithced to Industrialization (in 8).

IT: The Celts and Zulu sign peace; the world has no war anymore.

Turn 1 (1050 AD) Iron Works started in Wonsan (in 60, but size 4). Several cities that are candidates for a factory get pre-build, like a colosseum.

Turn 2 (1060 AD) The Zulu and Babylon know Medicine. Maybe it's not very clever to research ourselves without the AI at war. But I'm going to continue the research towards Indutrialization.

Turn 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (1070 - 1100 AD) building railroads. Science to 50% at turn 6. To 40% at turn 7.

Turn 8 (1110 AD) Industrialization discovered as first nation in the world. Next is Electricity (in 7). It obviously pays to research. Industrialization traded with the Zulu for Medicine, 89 gpt. Shangai switched to Universal Sufrage. We lose 66 shields.

Turn 9 (1120 AD)

Turn 10 (1130 AD) Building...

1140 AD save

Preturn: Aww Shaka has no coal? Poor guy. Upgrade 15 pikemen. I prioritize libraries and universities over banks. If we’re researching at 90% then banks don’t do much.

1150 AD (1): Wow our worker situation sucks. I focus on getting railroads hooked up to our frontier cities. The Zulus look anxious to pick another fight.

1160 AD (2): Just more worker stuff.

1170 AD (3): Najran bank->library. Khurasan marketplace->factory. Tblisi courthouse->harbor.

1180 AD (4): Nanking factory->Palace (pre-build for Hoover). Shaka learned Electricity. Science down to 0% and hire a scientist. Electricity in 1 turn.

1190 AD (5): We learn Electricity. Research set to Scientific Method at 90% (5t/-25gpt). We need Replaceable Parts more, but I know Shaka is researching that now. The AI loves that tech. So we can steal it after they get it. It would also take us 7 turns to research it anyway. I buy Nationalism from the Celts for Industrialization, Electricity, and 300 gold. Zulus and Babylon have Communism, Espionage isn’t available yet. I upgrade all our muskets to rifles.

1200 AD (6): Mecca factory->cavalry. Aden library->factory.

IT: Babylon declared war on the Zulu. :goodjob:

1210 AD (7): More worker stuff.

1220 AD (8): Mecca cavalry->cavalry. Damascus university->factory. Shanghai factory->library. Ulsan library->factory. Hangchow factory->cavalry.

1230 AD (9): Pusan factory->university. Inch’on courthouse->worker. Jack’s Gambit factory->cavalry.

1240 AD (10): We learn Scientific Method. Mecca cavalry->cavalry. Najran library->factory. Shanghai library->university. Nanking switched from Palace to ToE in 7 turns. Hoover is more expensive so we’ll save the leader for Hoover’s.

Inch’on is so close to a worker a turn but it can’t do it. If it had 1 food bonus it could do it. The next player can try to turn Paoting into a worker factory. It has like no tiles to work anyway so it might as well be one. It does have 2 cattle and a mountain.

We’re also getting close to being ready for war too anyway. We can capture some more workers. Zulus are a good target because they’re busy with Babylon in the east. We can hit them from the west. They have no coal either, although they’re currently assaulting a Babylon town with coal.

Ok ToE is due in 7 turns. That means we want to research something in 7 turns. We can do Replaceable Parts in 7 turns at 90% science, or the Corporation at 60%. I expect one of the AI’s will get RP pretty soon. They always go for it as soon as it’s available to them. So I think both the Celts and Zulus are researching it now. The Celts are Democracy and Zulus just went to war.

The Save

Hmm, server burped. I didn't even hit submit twice.

So is cgannon back yet?

Also do we want to go for domination or conquest? I've already stated I prefer conquest, but if you guys want domination then that's fine.

If we're going for domination I doubt we'll need tanks. Just change every city to produce cavalry and flood them.

cgannon64 is up now, I'm on deck.

I don't mind if we all decide to go for conquest but I don't really see the point - supposing we won domination by knocking out the Babs and the Celts, would that really mean that we couldn't defeat the Zulu ? It'd just take a little longer. On the other hand though, I have only 1 conquest victory to my name so one more couldn't hurt.
In any case, I support the idea of building lots of cavs and overwhelming the opposition - we could wait for tanks as we'd easily get them first with ToE, but to get them earlier has more style. Finally, cgannon, can you please remember to set science to minimum at atomic theory before the ToE is built ? Thanks ;) (Not sure you need the reminder, but it can't hurt now, can it ? :) )

Yes, I also vote for science at minimum now. And certainly minimum at Atomic Theory. Our techs from TeO must be Atomic Theory and Electronics. I remember CG5, in which we made the wrong choices from TeO.

Hoover must be built with the leader.

EDIT: war is OK, but let's wait for Rep. Parts. Artillery is very useful in human hands.

Well it looks like cgannon is still out of commission. We might as well finish this game off. One more round?

:eek: Up already ? I hope to get it tonight (no pbems then :( ), but I'll have to lead the European Berzerkers too, so it could be tomorrow. If cgannon can still get to it tonight, by all means let him jump in before me.

Jack Merchant <---Up now
Borealis <---On deck
Aggie
Shillen <---Just played
cgannon <---Skipped

I'm afraid I won't get to this one before tomorrow, so please skip me if anyone can take it before that (cgannon where are you ?). I am sorry about the delay, but RL has gotten markedly busier for me lately and my playtime this evening was unexpectedly consumed by an interminable meeting with the flatmates.

Summary: Most Boring Turns Ever

IHT Peel workers out of Aden and Najran

1250 AD (1) Movement of workers; I am going to peel off more from size-12 cities with a full foodbox as improvements complete. Most cities are already optimized for shieldsw - this is great work.

1260 AD (3) Some excitement as Mecca produces our first pollution

1275 AD (6) The corporation comes in, science turned off and set to Atomic Theory. ToE next turn. I buy Communism from the Zulu for Sci Met and 300 gold - we really need the police stations. Sci Met is also sold to the Celts for 70gpt and 200 gold. The Babs have nothing to offer. At this rate we'll have to research replaceable parts ourseleves.

1280 AD (7) Build ToE, get atomic theory & electronics. Rush Hoover in Nanking. Set science to Rep parts, due in 7 at +101 gpt as the AI research machine seems to have shut down completely.

1285 AD (8) Hoover built.

1295 AD (10) Figures - the Zulu somehow get round to researching Rep Parts. Boy, do I ever look stupid now. We can either finish the research ourselves or buy the remainder (although that will be at monopoly price, so finishing the research may actually be cheaper - it's due in 3 now).

Our cavalry is in Izibia and Kish, and I have begun building cannon, most of which are now in Jack's Gambit. There are also some along the Celtic border. We'll need some more infantry , and I may have begun building them late. Once more cities get factories though there can be no question as to which civ will win this game.

The upload server isn't cooperating at the moment so I'll try uploading the save later.

Yep we'll be steamrolling the AI's shortly.

You could have made it so the Corporation came in on turn 7. Building ToE on the same turn you learn the tech works. End result is probably the same though because you got all the cash back when you turned research off for that one turn.

The AI will always research replaceable parts if it's available and they don't have research invested in something else already. Alexman did a study on how the AI picks techs to research and it explains it real well. They even value replaceable parts over nationalism and government techs. But we probably should have researched it earlier just so we'd have it sooner. With our lack of workers it would have helped out a lot. So my bad there.

Should we turn research off after replaceable parts or do we want to keep going to tanks? Since the AI has infantry already we should probably go to tanks I guess. But if they have a lack of rubber or if their rubber is easy to pillage I'd suggest stopping at rep parts and just use cavalry + artillery.

I wasn't sure about the techs on the same turn, so I accelerated research to be safe. That's good to know though, thanks. I calculated beforehand how much it would cost and my way cost us about 100 gold extra. I also wasn't sure about rep parts - I thought I remembered seeing the AI research the Corporation occasionally.

I'm in favour of turning research off - that way we can cash rush whatever we need when we go conquering and we should do fine with artillery (though we need more of that atm).

Borealis is up now but I understand she won't be able to take it before tomorrow. Hopefully the upload sever will cooperate by then.

jack merchant, is the save in the uploads folder? I'll look for it after I finish my last few turns on K8.

Sorry guys, I haven't had time for any type of video games in the fast week or so. School is coming to a close, but they sure do pile it on near the end...

1295 AD : We are up by the Corporation and Atomic Theory, with Replacable Parts due in 3 to bring us up to tech parity-Democracy, which we don't want.

1305 AD: Nanking starts the Military Academy. If we're turning research off after tanks, we don't need it as a wonder prebuild, and having armies to put tanks in immediately would help speed the :hammer:. Research slider MMed as RP is due in 1.

1310 AD: We discover RP, and start Refining, due in 7. Upgrade of Riflemen to Infantry for 480g.

(IT): We trade maps with Babylon.

1315 AD: Upgrade of cannon to artillery for 1880g.

1340 AD: Military Academy built in Nanking, which starts Army production.

(IT): Zulu and Babylon make peace.

1345 AD: Refining discovered; research started on Steel. We have three sources of oil within our boundaries. :D

1350 AD: The Iron Works finishes in Wonsan. [party] Wall Street started in Jack's Gambit, due in 4 turns. There is a huge stack of arty and cav in Izibia, ready to be used when Motorized Transportation is discovered.
