I'm playing with the Fall Further modmod, which allows a "no level requirements for AI" option, which removes level requirements for unit upgrades like Mages, Archmages, Immortals etc.
Very nice option.

So, the AI can and does actually build mages, and it casts spells.
Problem is; it casts spells *all the freakin time*.
Particularly Charm Person.

Keelyn, with Loki and puppets that each last 3 turns, ties up ridiculous numbers of troops, even when I'm not at war with them.
Similarly, I have open borders and insanely good relations with the Mazatl who I had been cultivating as allies all game, but I can't actually sign a Permanent Alliance with them because the stupid sods got the Minister Koun event.

But the mages of my very good friends, passing through my territory, constantly charm person all my stacks, making it very hard for me to fight a defensive war against the other 4 civs that keep declaring war on me. These stacks also make Maelstrom useless, because I can't cast it without starting a war with my good friends.

Anyway, my main point is: charm person shouldn't effect troops of civs that you aren't at war with.

Also, arguably Mind spells like Charm Person shouldn't effect Elementals like Djinns (I'm playing Kahd, who gets Djinns through their Gates); if I can't use any XP I gain on promotions because they're mindless, then at least they shouldn't be charmable.

I agree with the point about charm person shouldnt effect non-enemy units. I'll change it.

Yeah, setting <bImmuneNeutral>1</bImmuneNeutral> would make sense. Would that make it not work against HN units though?

From the xml it appears it already only works on living units, so elementals are already immune.

I might be mistaken about the Djinns; it definitely works on Gnoslings, but it seems those are probably living units.

Thanks for the targeting change though.
