I have taken a long pause from playing civ, but recently aquired BTS. I see that chopping is a lot less giving, what is the general opinion about the worker and bronze working starting strategy?

In BTS you get 50% more production from chopping after researching mathematics.

I do less chopping in BTS, only the necessary for a quick settler or an early wonder.
I save most of the trees for post-mathematics and a few for future lumbermill / forest preserve.
More often than vanilla I research worker techs first to get the resources on the map ASAP rather than going always Mining ==> BW.

I still do Worker-Chop-Worker-Chop-Chop-Settler, with studies towards Bronze. It always gets my second city out way before the compitetion

One time my capitol is next to several cows, pigs & sheep and I went for AH and ended up with Horses in my fat cross. That was a good game.

Chopping isn't as popular anymore. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=248435 This strat works great and is totally different from the get the second city out asap line of thinking. The second city doesn't matter all that much... It is your total empire that does.

I still chop my forests for hammers, but i've never had a clear felling mentality, I"ve allway's saved a couple for health/lumbermills, 3 hammers, 2 food and 1 commerace(by river) POST railway's/replaceable parts..is hard to miss...

Early hammers, I've rather improve my resources, grow the city faster and wait longer to get out settler, and spam more in a shorter space of time..

National parks, I generally set this up in a tundra area, with many trees in its initial starting postition. By the time it his its late game, so you don't need to clear fell to get it up and running, you can wait. The 1 FREE specialist per FOREST PRESERVE is just BRILLIANT. No food used, so a medocare city with 5< food, suddenly just BOOM....Spread Sids Suchi, or Ceral mills there..and rapidily, you've got a core city in production/population. Of course you'll also need Mining Inc or the other hammer company.

If its on a river, with levy and Power...WOW!!!!, So why pass up these other wise "space filling cities"...they can become a late game CORE CITY.

Back on topic, you need Mathematics for 100% hammers from chops..or 50% more?, but I've never been a clear felling guy, I'm a moderate conservationist.:crazyeye:

Chopping can still be very effective especially if you get those fairly common BTS starts where your capital is covered in forests (but is usually very low food). Chop-chop-chop-timber!

In most of my games though I grow my capital to happy cap then start expanding. Chopping isn't as vital anymore because the AI seems somewhat slower to expand. There is usually more good land to settle so you don't have to be as aggressive early.
