I was read some books about Christopher Columbus alias Cristoforo Colombo alias Cristovao Colom alias Cristobal Colon and I want to know:

Where do you think he was born?

There are a number of contradictory statements about this.

Genoa.

I agree, Genoa although Barcelona tries to take the credit.
More importantly, where did he die and where was he buried?
Supposedly Havana but I've seen his tomb in Seville cathedral.
So what's buried in there?

Where's Antarctica?!

Seriously though, why did you include options like Mongolia? :)

What are you talking about? Wrong thread?

Just taking the mick,eh? :crazyeye:

He was born in the Kalmar Union obviously. The Danish city of Århus to be precise.

That was my reasoning!

He was Italian.

Nah, I'm pretty sure he was born in the USA. How else would he be able to find America?

I thought this was a no brainer. Christopher Columbus was born Columbus, Ohio. How else would he have got the name! :crazyeye:

Unless you mean the film director...He is from Pennsylvania :)

Cool! May be somebody will write a story about his Mongolian past? :)

He was buried in Havana before the Spanish-American War, but after Cuba achieved independence the remains were transported back to Spain. Although they weren't originally buried in Havana- they had originally been buried in Seville (although not in Seville Cathedral) then moved to Hispaniola, then were moved again after Hispanolia fell to the French.

Kashyyyk is by far the most probable area.

Well, that's quite a lot of movement for a dead guy! But if we have his bones, can't people use his skull to try and recreate his face, so we can find out what he looked like? And perhaps find from his remains some clues to his home? That, of course, only happening if people feel it is right to, once again, dig up someones bones, which, especially for a guy this well known and renowned, may not be seen as very respectful.

Yeah, Christians- Catholics in particular- tend to be pretty protective of their tombs, they probably wouldn't be very cooperative.

There is a theory which states that he was Portuguese. The theory based on the fact that many of names places that he called was based on Portuguese towns and places, and the best known case is CUBA.

Are you sure it was Columbus who came up with name Cuba? I remember he gave a different name to the island (and a wikipedia search gave me that name, Isla Juana, a reference to the Spanish heir).
