City Name List?

Why would it annoy the finns ? :) I think they should have used the swedish name on helsinki and turku and so on since i make little sense playing the Swedish and having finnish names on your cities.

You must be a Swede...;) But, yes, to be historically accurate Finland was an integral part of the Swedish empire until the Russian takeover in 1809. Many of the Finnish cities were essentially set up as Swedish garrison towns and, I guess, as Swedish merchant towns. Most seem to have a Swedish name as well....Helsingfors, Turku-> Abo, Tampere->Tammerfors....and so on. Though some on the list never really were "Swedish" towns....

Heck, even the Finnish word for "town"...kaupunki, comes from the Swedish word for "market town"...köping....

I'm happy enough for the Maya cities to use the better-recognized modern names than the Mayan ones from Civ IV, even if it's less authentic, but I would prefer to have the appropriately accented characters (such as Copan with the accented a).

As for that list, I'm quite intrigued to see the full one. From my games as Pacal so far I've found the following:

1. Palenque
2. Tikal
3. Chichen Itza
4. Uxmal
5. Tulum
6. Copan
7. Coba
?. Siebal (founded as a Hun city).

EDIT: Nevermind, just seen the full list. I'm both impressed and happy that Kabah made it on after all, though sad that Ek Balam didn't make the cut this time.

Yes, I noticed this as well that some 100 % finnish towns appeared on the list.
But generally i love the fact that Finnish cities are in the Swedish empire considering the time the civs leader are from. Although it might be hard on the finns cause it eliminates an epic Winter war Scenario with Mannerheim as their leader ;)
 
lol, i just quickly went thru Americas list. the very last city name was Le Bam. i have no idea what city that is, haha. also, I was peeved there was no Louisville. Kentucky needs some love.
 
Are you able to modify the list so you could change one to Liousville?

Where is the city list kept for the Celts? i was hoping to find out how many cities I need to build to get the achievement for the longest city name...
 
I'm planning to tweak a few city-lists myself, once I can get ModBuddy not to crash on this old PC. At least I found the files with the hard-coded lists, and copied those to my modding directory so I won't crash the game by editing the originals. ;) It's a shame I'd need help with the foreign translations, though!

It is possible if you actually don't try to do it with a "proper" game. What I did is that I built a few cities generally to boost up the economy. Then I had to build like 25 or so settlers, sent them all out to different positions 4 tiles apart, and then in one turn, I founded all those 25 cities at once. I didn't play through that game, though.

Where is is "Le Bam" (if it exist),can't find anything about that city.

Apolyton is a city,but Thunderfall isn't?!

Thunderfall is a city of the vikings, and since the vikings have been kicked out in favour of Denmark and Sweden, it probably just fell under the table... And it's not as if they have given much thought into these list, some of them haven't changed since Civ 1.

I think Le Bam is another one of those joke names, not sure from where though...
 
Sounds French to me,maybe something like:"Boom!" or "The Boom!"

Lebam was originally called Half Moon Creek. The town was later named Lebam, the reversed spelling of early settler JW Goodell's daughter's name, Mabel.

Geography

Lebam is located at 46°33′42″N 123°33′7″W (46.561634, -123.551923).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.8 km²), all of it land.
