The new Spanish and Portuguese maps are weird. There's lots of typos and strange locations of cities. For example, A Coruna is "A coruna" in the new map. Santiago de Compostela is gone, not a good thing considering its probably the third holiest city in Christendom. I captured Cordoba's city on the Madrid tile "al-Mudaina" and the new name for that tile is Segovia...

I'm not going to delve in any further.
All respect to Madouro but I don't know what this city name map has improved. This new map does not all take into account the tilt of the Iberian peninsula. The old city name map is much, much more accurate and should probably remain unless the actual map of Iberia and North Africa is redone. jessiecat made the Iberia and North Africa city name maps for Portugal, Spain, and Cordoba a while back and they were perfectly accurate and synchronized with each other. To throw it out when no significant change has been made to the terrain of the area is a bit inconsiderate of the effort made by jessiecat, among others. The new city name map is not tilted with the physical map, that's the source of the problem.
I know how tedious and frustrating it can be to make acceptable city name maps, and the effort is wasted oftentimes when the creator of an original map isn't present to discuss his map in light of new suggestions. There should be more communication and review before an old map is scrapped and a new one put in.
AbsinTheRed, you mentioned that not enough people cared about the awkwardness of the Iberian Map. If this case is indeed still open, I would be willing to have a go at redesigning it. I know how I would do it to minimize change to gameplay. I'd take a note of the total amount of tiles West of the Pyrenees, and take note of the specific resources and productivity of each region. I would first post the outline of the peninsula and North Africa first for comments and suggestions.
So much time has been put into this mod over the years that I think the final version deserves a map without such an outstanding flaw.
