City revolt chance

Hi,

I just finished a game playing as Wilhelm von Oranje where I captured Ghandis capital Delhi. It was on a border with the remaining Indian empire which I vassalised...Throughout the rest of the game Delhi would revolt for 5 turns intermittently, despite me building culture in Delhi to increase it's culture resistance. As soon as the revolt ended Delhi would have a normal fat cross, so I don't think the revolts were purely because of culture problems.

I noticed that when hovering over the population bar it showed me the percentages of each civ (In the end it was about 30% Dutch 70% Indian) and also a City revolt chance (this was always between 6-8%). I tried building more culture, growing the city, stationary spy, increasing happiness, but I still got revolts every 4-8 turns, and the city revolt chance did never really go down.
What causes the city revolt chance, and how do you decrease it?

you can help preventing a flip by placing units in it. after some 20-30 units i guess, it is very unlikely to switch.
in my last game, i went for a cultural vic with gandhi. my bordermost (just invented this one, me thinks ) city going for legendary had alexanders city completely surrounded with its culture for probabely 70 turns but it never even revolted. i think that units make too much of a difference there... as you can see here, where bis is under massive cultural pressure, has units in a doomed city to prevent it from switching. seriously, whats the use of having a size 1 city for the most game, unable to produce anything, just keeping your military busy???

but I don't think these revolts were caused by cultural pressure from Gandhi.
Whenever the city came out of revolt it would have a normal fat cross, which it wouldn't if it was surrounded by culture...
I think the revolts weree due tyo the 6-8% city revolt chance...but I have no idea what causes this in the first place, and how to get rid of that...

They were caused by cultural pressure.. The fact that you could work the whole fat cross is just cause of the way the vassal system works. Stationing units would help. Don't think you need 20-30 though...

When you vassalize another civ, you get control of all the tiles in your fat crosses that are actually culturally controlled by your vassal (except, I believe, if a tiles is within one of their fat crosses AND it is closer to their city than to yours). So even though you were able to work those tiles, they were still controlled by Ghandi.

Other than through espionage or random events, revolts are always caused by cultural pressure; it's just that you couldn't see his culture because he was your vassal

When you Vassalize someone, your cities always get control of tiles in the fat cross, as long as there isn't another city closer to a particular tile than yours.

So even though you have all the tiles available to work, Indian culture is still dominant on the city tile as you indicated. If, as turns pass, your % goes up and Indian % goes down, station units in the city until Indian culture is no longer a majority.

stationing units in the city until the "chance to revolt" line goes away will get you the tiles to work when the culture-competitor is your vassal, regardless of the % of culture on the bar. units in the city don't increase the culture %age in the city but they calm the whiners down.

Well, the one thing that really annoys me is that when getting a vassal I'm constantly annoyed by pop-ups "The people are asking to flip back" or something to that effect.

Hmmm. Yes, after spending all my time, engergy, and resouces capturing cities, Im' supposed to click yes and them them back?

Unfortunately I have a habbit of misclicking sometimes and doing just that! There really should be a disable option for this crazy thing.

There is. It's under the "options" screen. Turn off advisor pop-ups.
