Civ 4 Civilizations

im allso prity happy with it, tho i think its incomplate. only thing is it needs bablyon and it will be compleat

But, Scotland is part of England, isn't it?

OMG What planet are your from!!. Scotland is a country!!! how can a country be part of another country!!. and Scotland has been here for longer than Holland and certainly longer than the U.S.A.. Russia has only recently become a country!!. And as far as the world is concerned, it would definately be a differnent place without Alexander Graham Bell (telephone inventor), John Logie Beard (Television inventer), I think youl agree are possibly one of the most significant inventions since FIRE. Scotland has a great culture too. Scotland has never been taken over by any country, we have fought with the English for centuries. And as far as empires are concerned, the British empire would have been non existant if it was not for the Scots!. the Scottish army makes up 1/3rd of the British army today!!. Scotland is a small nation but for would we have done in history we deserve a place in the game.
Id love to team up with France and destroy the hated English!! and for the "auld alliance" again!!
MON THE SCOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's funny, last time I checked it was part of the United Kingdom, not a fully independent country.

It gets invaded and conquered

1)Holland colonized much of SE Asia and became an economic power. Did Scotland ever do that?

2The U.S. may have a short history, but it has already accomplished more than Scotland has in all it's history.

3Russia has existed in some shape or form since the 1400's. Modern Russia has only existed for 15 years, but there have been others.

The British would simply have used someone else in the Scots place. Like the Welsh, Irish, or Canadians.

"It gets invaded and conquered"

Seriusly, Scotland would be in if it was a list of top 50 countries, but as things are it would be like having russia + bulgaria in; you would tend to pick russia if it isnt a regional game :| Bulgaria deserve to be in a civ game too you know ;)

Yes, I would definitaly put Scotland in a game with 50 civs, but 18...

Always going on about independance yet every time it comes to the general electon the SNP dont really achiev all that much. I think that sums it up really. Im English myself with a Scottish Heritage and ive never really understood why Scots hate the English. (To be fair its a noisey minority who go on about it) The truth is Scotland is a significant country and has a significant history. However its going to struggle to get into the game, not because it lacks anything but more a case of trying to fit in a very small amount of civilizations into the game. There is a case of instead of putting in England in the game you could put in the United Kingdom. But then some would be unhappy if the capital was London. The whole of the Uk would be good in a Scenario.

i think that the one country that really deserves to be in at least an expansion pack is austria-hungary (well not sure about austria alone, or perhaps it could be called habsburg empire) + i would really have liked to see Greece + the byzantine empire as one, although i can see some points why it could work better if they are seperate (the current civ Greece represents mostly the ancient era anyway). But they could have easily made it one, by having for example Basil II as the second greek leader, and byzantine backgrounds in the medieval age

I like the list so far. A little small, even more disappointing that Firaxis stiffed us with leaders, but the nations themselves are good picks. For an X-Pac I'd like to see
19.Mesopotamia(I think we need to represent Sumeria, Akkadia, Babylon and Assyria as one, for a world map's sake and because all the mesopotamian civs were important, but putting them all in seperately where they become world-spanning empires is excessive considering all the civ's we'd like in)
20.Ethiopia
21.Khymer
22.Portugal
23.Netherlands
24.Poland-Lithuania
25.Turks/Ottoman Empire
26.Iroquois
27.Scandinavia
28.Maya
29.Phonecians(Or Carthage. Theoretically they could cover each other if someone so desired, as they were both influential but highly related, as Carthage was once a colony of Phonecia)
30.Polynesians(hey, they really deserve a hats off. They had mastered the pacific while Europe believed the world to be flat. The evidence is that polynesians sailed not only to South America, but possibly even to California. They were expert colonists and had an extremely advanced navigation system, allowing them populate large areas of the Pacific. They were also fine stonemasons, leaving many enigmatic monuments across the pacific, most well known are the stone heads of Easter Island. Their society too was well organized, with a strong authority structure, based on geneological ranking, and strongly focused on overseas colonization. Plus the UU would be awesome - Voyaging Canoe, replaces Trireme, only 1 strength but can cross coast, sea and ocean, carries 1.)

But that's for the Xpac. For now, I'll just say that leaders aside, I'm rather pleased with the selection of civs.

:hmm: and the person quoted in your signature isnt?

Modern Turkish Republic is founded on M.K. Atatürk's ideology. He is dead, physically, but, as Alexander or Lincoln, he will live forever.

Everyone will always see him living by looking at Turkey.

KURDS

For they are a great people, and nowadays.. the largest ethnic group without a land.. for now..
if all ethnic groups were put into the game, there would be countless civs.

they never managed to create an independent country for about 1000 years, and now, they are given the control of northern iraq by external forces.

There are so many nations to put in the game its just not possible i would love to see everyone in the game that way you can play whoever you want. I play alot of alternate history campaigns on multiplayer so i would allow the Kurds into that and see if things change. In the current campaign m in im playing the Aroi Sun Kingdom i doubt they would make very many lists.

It hasn't helped that the powers whose territories they inhabit have actively prevented them from forming a national identity.

yeah, id throw the celts in before phoenicia, khmer, and ethiopia....

Woops. I completely forgot about our noble Celts. They definitely belong on the list too. If I had to drop one from my list it would be Ethiopia, and replace them with Celts. Preferably of course I could just tac them on the end, and the developers would give us a total of 31 civs after the first xpac. Of course, I know we'll be getting 5-8 new civs in the first one, and the same number range in the second one. But yea, Celts belong in too.

I want to see turks and a mesopotamian civ in civilization 4.Mesopotamia is the birthplace of the human civilization.Once they were great people for 2000 years.Don't forget history begins at Sumeria .Turks creates lots of empires(seljuk, ottoman,göktürk) They must be in game too

i dont like generic civs, and celts imo only have one good reason for being in civ: they represent a lot of nations which otherwise wouldnt be represented (ireland, scotland etc etc). Im not sure that on any other grounds the celts need to be in civ4.
Poland- Lithuania isnt nearly as important as austria-hungary imo.
Armenia could be in though, although it wasnt a real empire: one pro is that t would be only the 3rd orthodox civ (and religion is important in civ4), another that it has something to present in the field of art.

Civ #19: Scotland
Leader: Queen Mary? :hmm:
Civ Traits: Erm, Industrious-Agricultural? :hmm:
Cities: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dumfries, Wick, Elgin, Melrose . . . erm, help me here?

Satisfied? :) Anyway at least it didn't turn into 'my country/nation/ethnicity is better than yours.' We've seen enough of that as 'tis here.

Polynesians, definitely should be included, mainly for the reasons Trajan13 pointed out. I do also like the Celts (which include Scots), and their contributions to the world.

Holland is, and never was, a country.
The Netherlands (Nederland) are (is) a country.
The related monarchy/empire includes all overseas territories.
Dutch as a civilization includes (should include) Netherlands, Flanders, Boers.
Dutch as a language (group) does the same minus the Frysians, plus, one can argue, northern Germany (Niederdeutsch).
