Civ 5: Echoes of Ages

i meant that if normal maintenance is 1 then a maintenance of 0 is like getting +1 gold, right? If so, that means that +1 faith and 0 maintenance IS equal to getting +2 total?

No it's not the same as getting +2. Costs are usually there on everything becuase if you didn't have maint then you'd have a bazillion cash for a massive army. If you have a maint 0 building it's usually better for a war like player who wants the cash to maintain armies.

Wonders and Civ Specific Buildings usually are the only things that have no maint.
Along with +gold buildings as that would make no sense.

Anything else usually should have maint.

You could put in the <HELP> which comes up when youy mouse over something. "This building is maint free" to push that as a feature of the building.

Well, i am making a chain of zero maintenance buildings that provide small effects and work in a tree, based on the Palace Additions mod... The bonuses are "small" or a little less than normal low-tier buildings. The ladder is:

Palace Alter, +1 happiness, +1 faith > (cost 60, hurry cost 30)
Great Hall, +1 happiness, +1 culture >
Palace Gardens, +2 food >
Palace Observatory, +2 science >
Labor Hall, +2 production >
Palace Treasury, +2 gold >
Palace Throne Room, +1 faith, happiness, gold, culture, production, science

This would follow the footsteps of it's predecessor and have no tech requirements or maintenance, but have about 20% more cost to produce/buy.

One difference, is the original mod gave you much stronger bonuses, one level gave 2 free workers and another gave a free great person - which i will not do.

I am getting close to finish, actually...

its here and on the workshop, go ahead and use/change whatever you like - i missed that mod, so i used converting it to g+k as a tool to teach myself some basics.

Frankly, i like your design method and would look forward to any changes and improvements you made to it, should you do so. I put it in the "Mod Components" sub-forum.

Quick question, not sure if this has been addressed (don't wanna read 18 full pages :p), is the game balanced for epic speed as well?

Civ itself is imbalanced on epic speed, because of the unit/tech progression being different. on epic, the handicaps have a quicker "building rate" and a slower "research rate" compared to normal games. (if you want to experience this difference, get Cyrinno's SloMo Science 20% and play a standard speed game and it will feel like epic speed.

That said, the building costs in this mod and buildings themselves should be fine for any speed, however because of the distribution of tech / research / gold, you will notice the time-frame per tech rate does not "run you out" of buildings to build - and you will get a little more gold and happiness earlier, meaning better initial expansion. T

so yes, Echoes of Ages works well with epic speed, because while things take longer to go obsolete, you wind up with more possibilities than without this mod. Slightly bigger cities from harvest festivals for instance, and transforming obsolete resources late game makes a big difference.

now, when you get brave you can load hundreds of others.

small tip: echoes of ages does NOT work with community call to power project. this is because CCTP changed the tech tree.

However - you will learn that Echoes of Ages is one of the most compatible mods across the board, i hope you like it as much as i do.

Couldn't agree more, downloaded in on March 2012 and never looked back.

Incredible work - the project will grow and this project is preparing to expand - thanks for all the help, like Echoes of Ages this will hopefully give everyone a good time :)

Thanks for Palace Plus+, welcomed addition, I guess I need to wait for my current game to end.

Please surprise me by saying I can add it to my ongoing game?

go into the disabled folder and cut-paste the folders into the main directory. From what i understand, Cyrinno is soon to re-enable these things but wanted to finish getting them perfect first. However for those of us (like me and you) who hate waiting, we have the choice of playing NOW just by doing that.

However, they are disabled for a reason - they won't crash your game but are not balanced as much as they could be. Echoes of Ages is a high quality work that evolves and has evolved several times, and what a great work it is :)

Thanks, I reckon moving the folders is not enough, I need to edit the modinfo for the files to be loaded and added to the database, right now they are loaded from the DisabledContent folder but not activated, moving them by themselves will not cause that content to be loaded and activated, I'm not a modder so I'll better not mess with it without precise instruction. It's a little bit complicated for me.

interesting, i never noticed this. I have all the "religion" buildings for example, and i didn't change those settings.

Just try moving the folders and if you get the content into the game the question is answered as yes. If not, a workaround can be made, and these features will return shortly anyway.
