Hi all

This question has properly been answered already, but i could not find it
Will i be able to install the same copy of civ5 on 2 computers & have both games running at the same time (as we can do with civ 4 bts) or do i need to buy 2 copies ?

I would like to have it on my desktop & laptop.

Not at the same time, you can only play one version of any steam game at a time (logged in of course). I think you might be able to play one offline though, not sure about that scenario.

please buy two copies if you are going to run on two different machines at the same time.

You can install your copy on an unlimited number of your computers, but you can only play it on one of them at the same time. If you want to play multiplayer on two computers, for example, you should buy two copies.

Thanks, that what i wanted to know

You can install on two machines. This will allow you to play on both machines at you leisure.

If your playing in online mode, you can only be logged on on one machine at a time though. In offline mode you can run to machines at the same time. However, you are not allowed to let someone else play your copy of civ (some exceptions may apply), without their own license.

In order for your friends to play civ at your house they have to own a copy civ themselves. They will then be able to use your installation through their steam Account. A possible exception is Hot-seat.

I doubt that would work because game would still see that both players have same CD key.
The CD key is only used for initial authentication with steam. After that, the Steam account is used. But in offline mode, I don't think that steam would associate an account when playing.

Still, it could recognize that both computers are using the same account. It's probably not automatic, but it could be coded in.

No 2K greg has posted that LAN will work in offline mode, I have to run right now but I'll dig up the thread later. My orginial statement was posted as a fact not my opinion or speculation, if it was I would have said so in the intro to my post.
