Civ 5 Play online whit Mods? / Earth

Hello!

I wonder if they've fixed in the new expansion, G & K that you can play mods online? or anyway over the LAN. It is so that me and my dad want to play Earth map online with real starting locations. is this possible or not? want to know if i should buy the expansion or not, we dont like to play fantasy maps

IIRC it's possible to play mods in HotSeat, and with the GMR app (link) you can turn HotSeat into a PBEM.
Not exactly what you're asking for, but that comes nearest.
