civ 6 is a good game with issues.

^ Actually Civ5 musics are better. with Peace and War variants as well as ethnicity group themes.

Are better? You do realise that's highly subjective right? Personally, although I miss the war and peace a bit, I'd rather have Civ VI's way of handling music any day. Each Civ their own track, only those tracks of civs in the game, and music changing throughout the eras. Absolutely amazing, much more identity and feeling for the Civs themselves, instead of going "You are on the Asian continent, so you are in the Asia group".

Civ 5 had music?

I mean Shaka's War theme was really cool, but... still prefer the Civ 6 one.

Also Sogno di Volare is good but sorta disappointed they just had one theme song. Did you know Civ 4 had theme songs that weren't Baba Yetu?

Though can I really say Civ 4 had the best soundtrack when the best parts of it are recycled from Civ 3..,?

you make it sound like as if civ 6 didn't take account for ethnicity.
Music wise Civ 6 is BEST. Say what you will about game play Ai graphics... but for music civ 6 beats everything hands down!

awful 'fokie' sounding music on a loop. Played Hungary lately?
You shouldn't put the entire soundtrack into a single category. Hungarian theme (my favourite theme btw) is more folkie because that is how traditional Hungarian dance music works, but I wouldn't call for example Byzantium's theme folkie at all. It's in entirely different genre.
The other thing is the fact that these themes evolve. Medieval era has more folkie sound, whereas industrial era has more orchestral feel to them. Russian industrial theme apparently reminds some Russians not of their folk music but their classical music. And I too would say medieval and industrial Russian are in different genre.
And as for the very statement of "awful" folkie sound, if you hate a genre of music, that must likely means you haven't heard enough of the genre. I use to hate the entire jazz genre before I found a piece that I felt pleasant to ears.

Civ4 you could mod the main theme music, and point the soundtrack at a directory on your hard drive. I had one for each era. And the sound files themselves were just MP3 so I could grab what I wanted and throw in anything else I liked.

The background music in Civ6 is fine. But I am completely over Sogno di Volare. Most of the time I mute my speakers on startup.

Maybe it's because when we used to buy expansion packs, we'd get a new theme for each (at least for the last few iterations). It's been the same theme entering the game for 5 years. It's old now (not the music's fault).

Some of the music is awesome, some is like The Muppet Show theme that is Brazil's. ;)

The violin war music still almost gives me chills.

Civ6 has music?
It doesn't?? Oh, no!

Anyway, to go back to the question of goodness of the game, it could be a good game, even a great one, if FXS could be bothered to fix bugs about 10 times faster than they do now, if ever. Civ 6 has been the most bugged Civ game in history. And with the most barebones AI which can't make use of the most part of the game's mechanics, thus damaging any roleplay and storytelling. I ran out of imagination to justify AI's decisions long ago. At the moment it's strictly a builder's game, and as such it is fun, but it is hardly a Civilization game. Still, if given some sincere maintenance and bugfixing, and UI overhaul (Quick Deals mod should be in, first of all! Now consoles are discriminated), this game could still be brought into a decent state. But I've been hoping for this in vain for a few years now.

Honestly I would have been kind of mad if we got a new theme for R&F or GS. I might be one of the few people who don't mute the song when starting a game. It just sounds so epic. :)

Instantly subconsciously hums Baba Yetu whenever anyone mentions the catchiest civ theme

It's the only game music where I have literally added it to my playlists, or searched it out outside of playing the game, or even just take a really long time to load up the game.... Just so awesome. Evokes some memories, has an epic part in the middle, and just fits the theme of creating a civ that can stand the test of time.

Funny. I'm still OK with it. But it's the one when Civ V starts that I can't stand anymore. I just jump onto the volume button.
"Terra Nova"? The BNW theme? Ugh, I hate that song with a passion and did pretty much from the first time I heard it. :p

Was much better when used like this. This trailer is cooler than any of 6's cheesy ones. If I didn't actually play Civ 5, I'd think it would be a cool game.

Although I'd never forgive the generic vanilla theme. That was such a huge step down from Civ 4 (although one of many...)

As for Sogno di Volare, I think the problem is overuse-- like all the victory themes are variants of it.

I think Civ5's vanilla opening video is the best in the franchise. Still hate "Terra Nova" though. :p

Agreed. It's a great song; I've just heard it too many times.

There is nothing wrong on the AI cheating, if as a result the AI is challenging, fun and fair to play.

In fact, the "obsession" of making an AI that plays with the same knowledge a player has, is ridiculous. The player not only learns how the AI plays, but also trought multiple matches learns the meta of the game and can load, save and restart a game, also the AI cannot choose the civ of the player or many other things the players has control over.... . So the AI can never play Civ with the same rules the player does.

Making a game so the AI does not have more information than the player; is not always a good design. It is only if you don't need that information to make the AI behave smart enough to challenge a human. And in the case of civ VI is a stupid design decission that makes no sense, since the difficulty options destroy the "playing the same game" pretension anyway.

Is even worse if you make new mechanics continuously with complete disregard on how those mechanics affect the AI.

And is really even worse if the AI ignores a lot of the rules of the game, just because the devs did not code the AI with the logic to manage said mechanics, this is what happens in VI.

Maybe previous Civ games had also a bad AI. But that is not an excuse to keep letting a terrible AI pass.

Also I disagree. This is the only game in the franchise where the AI is unable to win domination, or even play domination. So we can say whatever we want about previous Civ AI complexity. But the fact is that Civ VI having the worse AI in the franchise, in the context of being able to play the game is, I think, not in question.

Is the game fun despite the AI?, yes, sometimes. It does a couple of things great. I think is the best Civ game in some ways. But is also the worst in others, and the AI is not its biggest problem.

Unfortunately, VI is the worst game on the franchise in almost every feature that matters to me.

Wish could be more positive, and I'm happy that some people love the game. I don't. So much, that after thirty years playing Civ. The next one, will be the first I'm not looking forward to.

isn't the fact that you had to mod the music provides that music isn't good? since you are willing to listen to other music other than what game provides?

In Civ4 I never actually modded the main theme music, but most total conversion mods like Fall From Heaven did so.

The main reason I resorted to providing my own soundtrack(s) wasn't because the music that came with the game was inferior. Far from it. In fact, I reused a lot of it. But I've logged many thousands of hours playing Civ4 and various mods thereof, in fact I still play it sometimes. Even the best soundtrack will become a bore eventually.
